I was wondering if any of you were having a similar problem with your church not having the equipment to do this? Video camera, digital camera, screen to show it on, etc? Did you skip it?
Thanks!

| You only need a digital camera, laptop and projector. You might be surprised to find out what equipment the folks in your church have! I'd at least ask. There really isn't any way to do it without that. I guess you could take regular pics and put them up in the hallway or something with "captions" for the kids to look at the next day or something.

| We did not do spotlight drama. The only person I would know to ask to do this left today for a youth gathering. I know I will get complaints because I didn't have someone taking pictures every night. However, that was so low on my list of priorities. I choose to do without a photographer in order to get enough crew leaders and station helpers. We have run short of crew leaders every night. I have put kids in the leader position who are just barely old enough to do so. These kid leaders have been wonderful this year and the rotations are going smoothly. My newest response to complaints is, "I don't have time to even look for someone to ask. If you want pictures taken, please take on that responsibility, don't add it to my to-do list because I just have too many other items to line up for the program."

| Unfortunately, we had to skip Spotlight Drama because we don't have a laptop or a projector. I am too wary to borrow these items since they would be quite costly to replace if broken.

Here are a few alternate suggestions depending on what your church may have or what you might be able to borrow.
Alt 1- digital camera, laptop and regular TV (provided your group is small enough that everyone can see a TV...otherwise show it on TV in some setting that would mean a smaller group)
Most (perhaps all?) have a way to connect to a TV. It's usually "S-video" and even if you TV is older and only has the AV Input (the red, white and yellow connectors) you can get a connection to convert S-Video to AV.
Alt 2 - digital camera, desktop and lastest model TV with computer input
The latest model (usually the LCD types) have all sorts of input options these days which include a VGA input for a computer . Then you can hook up your desktop computer to this for a monitor (of course this works with a laptop too).
Alt 3 - like 1 or 2 and have the equipment but don't have a digital camera?
First off, why not?! They are great! But I digress...then use a regular camera to take the pictures then take them to a photo shop for developing and ask for a CD of the pictures. Make the PPT and show it the next day (yeah, you'll be "behind" but the kids will still love it...)
Hope some of these help....or at least inspire you to check what you might have. Get someone well versed in these types of things and have them figure out what can connect to what!
The spotlight drama was such a hit, I'd encourage you to try.

See, you're thinking about this all wrong! You don't BORROW the equipment, you find out who has it and put them in charge!

ADRIANNE B. (7/25/2007) My newest response to complaints is, "I don't have time to even look for someone to ask. If you want pictures taken, please take on that responsibility, don't add it to my to-do list because I just have too many other items to line up for the program."Off the subject ... Adrianne, having been in your shoes it just amazes me the gall that some people have to complain and/or offer "helpful observations and suggestions" (their description of what they're doing, certainly not mine). These are generally the same people who tell you to let them know if you need any help but then find an excuse as to why they can't. In reading your posts I know you are putting together an awesome program. Don't let these people make you think that anything you are doing is second-rate. And do not let them bring you down in your level of enthusiasm for serving our awesome God. Enjoy your week and blaze a mighty trail!

| Great question. Maybe group can offer an alternative if they continue this idea. We did not have a projector until 2 years ago (hubby and I purchased and donated it). Still do not have a lap top that belongs to the church. Might be interesting to do a poll and see how many churches don't have the equipment.

On the question of a projector, our local association has a supply of equipment that member churches can borrow. You just have to reserve it. Our church has one projector, but we borrow one to use in Chadder's. As to a screen, it's not an essential. Just use a big blank wall--that's what we do for Chadder's--gives it that move theater feel in a small classroom! We have a processor that someone donated and we run the power point through that. Along with a projector, you don't need a monitor. Just use your screen or blank wall as a JUMBO monitor. Of course, you need a techie person to set this up in advance, but once it's set, it's done.
