| | Matt, I too would love to do Bethlehem Village in Dec. But after struggling with volunteers and being overworked with VBS, I don't think I can pull it off. I just can't figure out how to motivate people. I'm actually stepping down as VBS directer after 3 years - which is very hard for me - but God blessed me with 5 children that need me to help raise them not just when I'm not busy with VBS. I dream of helping others with VBS - you know kind of like a traveling director that brings the props & supplies taking the pressure off of the church and letting someone who has the experience give "expert" advise and direction. | Gosh, I am just the worst person to ask about things like this...
Because I DO NOT ask for any evaluations!
I figure, if people don't like it, I'll hear about it and asking always seems to make those anonymous complainers come out of the woodwork no matter what.
As my Dad would say, don't let someone else put their monkey on your back. If you want to keep doing this and feel called to continue doing VBS, then do so.
People always have the energy to complain.
What a wonderful world this would be if people took just 1/2 the energy they use bringing others down to do good works!!

| | I agree with what has been posted. I am unclear though - do you ask for evaluations and who does them - staff, parents, ??? Our church does an annual training workshop for children's ministry. We put an evalution form in each packet and encourage them to complete these and turn them in. We learned right away that if we asked them to fill them out and write their name on the back (we use these to draw door prizes) we had better response. However, there are always one or two (out of 100-200) that are negative. Some complain about the lunch, which is different each year, others about crazy stuff and some of it is constructive. However - we have learned not to let the negatives run the positives. We receive far more positive comments than negative. The negative ones hurt, and we (being human) tend to take them personally. We know we do the best we can and also do our best to follow the direction we feel (through much prayer) God would have us to go. I am sure you made lifelong memories for some children this week. That is something the enemy cannot take away, regardless of how much he tries to discourage you. Don't be weary in well doing! |
