We do a VBS type program on Sunday mornings. Instead of Sunday School and Children's Church, all the kids are split into groups and rotate to different stations all morning. The problem is we are getting burnt out on the stations like crafts, snacks, games. Does anyone have any ideas of some different type of stations? Thanks!!

Sounds like fun!

How about these stations: music, journalism (make a one-sheet newspaper of what they learn that day), computers, drama, storytelling, puppetry (write a puppet play and present it), dance, science, object lessons, prayer, worship.

Just some ideas!

We've done something similar this year - using Avalanche Ranch VBS but spreading 1 day of VBS programming across 4 Sundays - eg week 1 is telling/acting out the Bible Story as the core event; week 2 the craft is the core event; week 3 is games and week 4 is Showtime and final preparations for the children to sing one of the songs in church that morning at the offertory - so no new ideas for stations for a way to spread it across the month.  The story is reenforced as is the Bible point "God is real", "God is with us" etc especially in light of those children who are "hit n miss" in attendance.

Now - help! we hope to use SCUBA VBS from 2003 but the Bible Story CD and other CDs are missing.  Does anyone have them that we might borrow and return?

My dear friend and CM mentor, has started an "experience" room at her church where the kids come in and feel, smell and touch different things from the story. I can't wait to see how I can incorporate this idea into our lessons!!!

We also do this and have been for 6 years. These are the workshops we have used..

Cooking (we have 2 - one for baking and one for cooking), Drama, Puppets, Writing, Storytelling, Science, Crafts, Agriculture (during warmer time), missions, movies, games, music. I teach a class that mixes it up! We do a variety in this class. I have also added a class this year for the older kid's that is taught every other month during what would be their movie class, that works with real life issues (conflict resolution etc). I also do a class once a school year, for a month where each of the different ministries in our church have to teach the kid's about what they are doing to serve Christ in their ministry

Don't be afraid to mix it up! That's why the program is soo cool! Email me if you need any more help!

God Bless!

Nancy

We incorporate the 5 senses in every lesson.

If the kids are getting bored, then there is a reason. Maybe the materials are not exciting, or the teachers are not prepared.
