| | Hi Everybody, I really need your help. We have done Group's VBS since Lava Lava island, so I know what talented people there are out there. We need to make a whale for a Christian outreach our church is doing. We would like for it to be where kids and adults can walk inside, but yet our space is kind of limited, since there will be other booths set up in our fellowship hall. I am usually creative, but it seems like lately my creative juices are gone. We were sent an email from group when they did S.C.U.B.A. , but I think the whale will be to big. We just want to make it realistic for the kids. I know this has nothing to do with power lab vbs, but I really desire your help. God Bless, Rodeo Pam |

| | For S.C.U.B.A. we used a large inflatable pool whale. It was approximately six feet long! Not sure if you can find one now, but if you do it should be on sale. Here is a photo of our whale suspended from the ceiling.
We also made a whale out of a camping tent. DOn't have a picture of that one, but it was fairly easy to make. We covered the tent with black plastic. Then we cut two giant eyes and glued them on. We made the tail by attaching it to the back of the tent and suspending it from the ceiling (using fish wire). For the mouth we left the opening to the tent uncovered and cut a piece of red carpet in the shape of a tongue and had it sticking out of the "mouth". For a really fishy smell inside the belly of the whale we opened a can of tuna and left it in one corner!

| We had a HUGE one at SCUBA that we borrowed from another church that designed it It filled half of our gymnasium and the tail went up to the rim of the basketball hoop. I will dig up some pictures but don't have the directions. It was made from PVC tubing and covered with blue tarps. The inside of it was lined with red christmas lights making the kids really feel like they were inside the belly. We put our "squishy" gym mats on the inside floor covered with a red carpet inside made it even more real feeling. A huge red carpet tongue led them in. The kids and adults at church still remember it....VERY, very cool!

| | Found them! I had to scan pictures since they were before we had a digital camera so the pics are not as clear as I would like to be able to show. If you thought Groups tarp inflated by a fan whale was too big then this is likely to be more than you were thinking of doing but could give you some ideas. You can certainly make him on a much smaller scale for your space using the pictures as a guide.
Shows entire whale
Shows PVC and wood framing
Shows inside whale showing the red lights and the box fan built into the tail for ventilation
Shows his big mouth with tongue sticking out. Notice he ends just center court of our gym

| Wow Kathy! I forgot all about that one. I will have to keep that on file. You never know when you will need to make one again. Since Pam has limited space I think this model can be scaled down and still be the perfect solution.

| Thanks PJ it was a lot of work but a great time! The church that loaned it to us had it outside in the front of their church...great attention getter for VBS!

| | I wanted to thank everyone for their great whale ideas. I knew you would come through for me. I was really started to stress over how to build this whale. I'm going to take these ideas and run with them and just have to downsize them somewhat. God is good, all the time! God Bless, Rodeo Pam |
