My husband is a pharmacist, so I'm borrowing his old smocks.  Some are shortsleeved, but I'm thinking the short sleeves might be nice and breezy in June/July/Aug.  Ask your local pharmacist about old smocks they might stashed away.

But don't ask me! LOL! Besides I wear a lab coat not a smock

He really wears a smock??

That's what the UNC Pharmacy school guys have always called them whether they zip up or button, long sleeve or short. Go figure!

so here is my big question... How come all of you know more about power lab than is on teh website, i mena I am paralyzed as far as planning and ideas until i get some more info. Like what are the crafts, ect. I liked AR because this time last year i had started my planning and i can't do anything this year yet!!!!!

I got to be a part of the field test in June. However, it's a lot to absorb in 5 days AND Group does do a lot of tweeking and editting after field test. That's the beauty of their material... by the time we get it in December, it's a "Turnkey" project. Of course, it is still fun to use VBS nuts to imagine and create...even after the starter kit is delivered! Making VBS your own is what sets us apart so that children can go to several "Powerlabs" and experience it in a refreshing way each time!

Just so everyone knows my church is going on a lab coat crusiade... We have sent letters to all the Dr's offices in town as well as the Medical college of VA which is not to far away, asking for donations of old unsuseable lab coats.

Hi Lisa & everyone... I think this is a GREAT idea!  Can you post a sample of the letter you used?  What did you mention?

I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

I don't have the letter on me right now however i mentioned the following

Who we are (our church)

Our Mission at VBS (our church's mission is to reach out to the unchurched in our community by providing a completly free VBS to the entire community regarless of church affiliation)

What the VBS theme this year is/the daily points

What we are asking for (lab coats or any other science related stuff)

and an invite for me to meet with them should they have any questions

That summed it up a simple one pager letter

Lisa!! I'm the College Science major so ask away!! and some days "the craft lady" at church...
PS. I <3 Bill Nye the Science Guy, Mr. Wizard, Mrs. Frizzle (magic School bus) and of course Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory

I think we will be getting our starter kits next week, so if anyone has anymore brainstorms, post away.  AND all you college science majors please help us liberal arts majors out with the science lingo... ok?

Unfortunately, I was recently in the hospital for some problems.  While I was there, they seemed to draw blood every 3 seconds (if I wasn't sick before....).  The lab techs who drew blood wore thick paper/mesh DISPOSABLE lab coats.  They were really cool.  I went to see the head of the lab and they gave me a box.  Too easy!

Just thought I would share.  Remember--it never hurts to ask!

Hmmm... I am having same day surgery tomorrow (pray for me). It might hurt to ask after the procedure! Guess I should ask while I am waiting for the surgeon!

Prayers for PJ! Hope all is ok and you are back to your old VBS obsession soon!

I dont know what we would do without our PJ.. you saved us last year!! and I cant wait to see what is happening this year on your site!

We are on an USAF base.. We are going to ask at the base clinics to see what we can find. I know we have some of the disposable ones.. but getting them from the clinic might be harder than asking at the civillian hospital!!..LOL

We might buy them for the crew leaders and the station leaders.. but I have not priced them yet.. and from the looks of what others had said.. they are not going to be cheap!!

*sigh* oh well.. maybe if we go in with some of the other churchs like we did last year on the props.. that might work.. and they would get used multiple times.. but we would all have a chance at them!

Katie

Come Egore, to the Power Lab! We have crafts to make!

Katie,

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words. My cousin, Dr. Blindstein, invites you to browse through the site. It is still under construction and will "explode" in the coming months!
