Hi everyone

I'm having a bit of a battle with a young person I know. She's 20 and has a fairly difficult life. Her parents divorced when she was young but she still grew up in a Pentecostal family.

She recently told me of her plans to convert from Christianity to Islam. I didn't know how to speak to her about this as I believe its wrong, and a slap in the face of her family!

Am I being judgemental by believing that her "plan" is wrong? When I asked her what her reasons were she just said that the Bible makes no sense to her!!

How can I help her understand something she has no interest in understanding?

For her to denounce Jesus as the Son of God is a sickening thing in my mind. He loved us so much that He died for us to be free! I don't know how to make her understand that when Islam preaches that a) Jesus was not the Son of God and b) He never died on the cross.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Much love

Let the weak say I am strong...

Strongly weak,

There is no doubt, I am glad I am not in your shoes. I agree that it is sickening but also reality of the day. Ask her what draws her to Islam so much. Also, check out Allistar Begg's book concerning Islam. Ask for specific Scriptures that don't make sense to here. She might have honest questions that need to be addressed. Be patient, be prayerful and be persistant.

I recently had one of my group attenders tell me she decided to be a Satanist because Christianity was retarded.  She was surprised when I didn't walk away or cut her off as a friend.  She just assumed that would happen with a "judgmental" Christian type.  I did stop preaching, trying to convert her, and arguing my points tho.

I think faith is a gift you are given from God.  I can only pray that He gives her her faith.  I will keep the lines of communication open if she wants to talk in the future.  I will continue to value her as a person (that just shocks her) because "they will know we are Christians by our Love."  Hopefully by knowing me a long time she'll see that Christians aren't the bad people the world makes us out to be. Then when things get tough she might remember the road home.
