Jamie,  You and your kids are often in my thoughts and prayers.  How are the kids doing?  What is the latest?

Still praying!

Thank you all for your continued prayers.  Jacob got very depressed and we have had him in a partial hospitalization program for this.  I've been driving him 2 hours one way M-F for 6 hours of treatment each day.  His release date is next Friday.  Mentally and behavioral wise he is much better.  The meds and counseling have worked miracles.  He is still hurting and having trouble sleeping but is eating again.  He's moving a little faster and has actually gone outside a few times lately.  This had totally stopped.  He was like a crab and didn't want to go anywhere.  The counselor and psychiatrist that he has been seeing both say that they believe that there is an underlying medical condition causing his pain.  They also told us that they had never seen a child with depression as severe as Jake's was.  He was a first for them to work with.  He has an MRI and EEG on the 19th and then sees the Rheumatologist on April 4th.  Please continue to keep him in your prayers.  I am really scared and anxious about him leaving Sundance.  I just don't want him to slip back into the depression that he was in.  It's nice to have my lil one back that will smile, laugh, and come find me where ever I am in the house to give me a hug.  I cried the first time I heard him laugh again since this all started.  He will go to school for half a day when he goes back to school.  Please pray for him about this.  It will be hard on him because he has been out so long.  Again, thank you all for your prayers.  I certainly could not have made it through this without my prayer warriors.

Please pray that God will provide the finances to pay for all of this.  Sundance is not a provider with the CHIPS health plan that he is on.  It is $300 dollars a day at this treatment facility.  But it is the only one around other than some in the Dallas area that treat children.  I had rather drive to Ft. Worth any day.  Again, thank you for your prayers.  I will update you all again soon.

Just wanted to give everyone an update on Jacob.  He was discharged from Sundance this past Friday and is doing well as for as the depression is concerned.  He is still hurting but seems to be coping a lot better.  His meds are working well for his depression.  Keep us in your prayers the next two days.  Tomorrow afternoon he has an EEG but he can not take any of his meds tomorrow until after the EEG.  I am praying that we will not have an awful day.  Wednesday he has an MRI.  This will be done with sedation.  On April 4th, he has an appointment with a Pediatric Rheumatologist at Scottish Rite Hospital.  The psychiatrist at Sundance mentioned that his pain could be pediatric fibromyalgia.  We are praying that something is found over the next few doctors appointments.  He will start back to school next week for half days.  Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Please keep Zoie in your prayers also.  She is having trouble with her asthma again.  She is doing a lot of croupy coughing this morning.  I'll be taking her to the doctor this afternoon.

Again, thank you for all of your continued prayers.

Just wanted to give you all an update on Jacob.  The EEG and MRI came back normal which we knew that they would.  The Neurologist told us that they would.  He wanted to do them for everyone's peace of mind.  Jacob sees the Rheumatologist this Friday.  We really believe that this will be where something is found.  His depression is better.  He started back to school last Monday.  We are having a really hard time getting him back into the swing of things.  Last Thursday and yesterday, he was disruptive in class and got in trouble because he doesn't want to stay at school.  He has never had behavior problems like this before.  He goes to a private christian school because of problems that he had at public school.  The problems were not behavior problems.

Please keep him in your prayers.  Friday could be a really long day because of all the tests that they could run.  Pray that whatever is causing his pain now will be diagnosed.  This has been a VERY long road.  He has been hurting for 3 and a half months now.  It is really starting to take a toll on myself also.  Again, thank you so much for your prayers for Jacob.

Hi Jamie,

Count me in to hold the ropes for you in this time of trial.  I prayed for God's refreshing spirit to be upon you today and the rest of the days.  He is giving you strength and all abundant grace to climb this terrain through the Holy Spirit.  I pray for HOPE to reside in your heart.  An ever increasing hope, to gaze your eyes on the hills of the Lord where your help comes from.  To be all the more trusting before God.  I pray that God will make your faith to rise so intensely within you that it will bubble forth with joy in your life.

This is a battle alright not to lose hope because the enemy is taking advantage of this time in your life.  But when there are times that you feel tired of fighting the battles in your life, you can run into His loving arms for comfort that everything will be alright for His love never fails to get you through tough times.  God feels and sees all your tears.  When it seems everything doesn't make sense and even if it looks like all things are useless for us, God picks up every tear that you shed and is saying "Your tears and prayers are not in vain,  I am your healer, your deliverer.  I will heal and deliver your children.  I am the one who gave them to you and they are mine.  If I have not withold my Son to save you, what more for your children.  They are in my hands."

I am praying for you,

Nice

Jamie, Thank you for the update.  I know how hard this is for you.  My 11 year old son has started exhibiting some unaccepatable behaviors at school.  I think part of it is that he missed out of so much classmate time this  past Fall - almost 2 months of not being able to get through the school day and then 2 weeks of hospitalization with a diagnosis of anxiety. He had self-harm thoughts with occassional suicide thoughts.   He seems to have lost a connection with his classmates - it is like he is a new student even though he has grown up with these kids.  Is your son in 3rd grade?  My son is in 5th which is another stressor - I believe that 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grades are such large jumps in schoolwork expectations that puts another pressure on kids with health issues.

I will keep you in my prayers and am looking forward to what Friday will bring to you.  I am sure you are at the point where any news will be bearable as long as it also brings the comfort of meds or treatment plans to help Jacob.

We are starting to look at OCD Scrupulosity in Orion.  This is a branch of OCD that is difficult to treat but I think we have been working on each symptom unbeknowst what it was and hopefully this early intervention will help Orion understand and control this if it ends up that he is diagnosed with it.  I have mentioned in the past Orion's very strong faith - stronger than most kids his age.  Scrupulosity deals with religious beliefs as well as morals and ethics.   OCD is not only the visual rituals people have (having to wash hands over and over, ect) but also deals with intrusive thoughts.  These thoughts sometimes makes Orion feel evil and its scares him.  He will learn how to disregard these and focus on being the person he wants to be.  He is mainly stuck on being overly upset over unfairness and who can go through a day of school without noticing some unfairness?  He actually right out refused a teacher's directive to go to the back of the line for arguing with a girl who was trying to get his 1st place in line because in his words, "As a person I had a right to that spot - Rosa Parks didn't give up her spot on the bus so I shouldn't have to give up my spot in line"    I don't know if he still understands the full extent of his disobedience but he did apologize to the teacher.

Please update us on Friday's results -

God bless you!

Jamie...I am reading this late...looks like you have all really had a tough time! I am a Peds nurse....I read thru all the "clinical" stuff...thankfully, it does not look "organic" (ie: doesn't have a physical cause), but his pain is most certainly real...I have worked w/ kids who have 2 things that sort of popped into my mind. You need to see a PEDIATRIC Pain specialist and ask them specifically about Regional Pain Syndrome AND Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. RSD is something that occurs following an injury that appears to heal, BUT the body continues to react and overreact as if the injury was still new and acute. One thing they will ask you is if Jacob had an injury just prior to the onset of the pain issues... try to think back to anything that could have happened just prior. Remember...the pain he is experiencing will not necessarily be in the same place as an injury. For example, he could have sprained a wrist and is now having leg pain, etc. Whatever the issue is, continue to be supportive of him and acknowledge the pain...it is so real to him. Take care of yourself, too...there is nothing worse than feeling like you can't help your child!
I will be praying for Jacob AND you! Blessings! Kimberly

Thank you all for your prayers.  I couldn't have made it through the past few days without them.  Jacob spent the day in the office yesterday doing his work.  He was fine and did his work just fine.  He tried to go to class around 10:30 but started crying and the teacher sent him back to the office.  He's supposed to be going to school half days but if he doesn't go to class he has to stay all day.  He stayed all day yesterday.  He was fine when we got home and was fine when I picked him up from school yesterday.  He wants to go to a tomahawk and knife throwing contest this weekend.  He will not get to if he doesn't go to class today.  He's in the third grade.  I talked to his psychiatrist and she said that he is stable enough mentally that we can start raising the bar and expect more from him now.  I don't know what the deal is about going to class.  Pray that this will be overcome today.  Next week he has to go all day.

Please pray that we will get answers about his pain tomorrow.  One of the psychiatrists thinks that it could be fibromyalgia and the RSD or Regional Pain Syndrome sounds like it could be a possibility also.  I will defininately mention them tomorrow.  Again, thank you for all of your prayers.  They have been greatly appreciated.  Please continue to lift Jacob up in your prayers.

I think I know what the deal is about not wanting to go to class.  When Orion returned to school after his 2 weeks hospitalization, he was very nervous about facing his classmates. He didn't know what to say to them even though we had explained his absence as "You all know Orion has been sick since school started.  In order for him to get the right medication to make him feel better, he needed to go to this special hospital."   Orion was nervous about how the kids would react to him being back and felt that they would look at him funny or watch him to see what might happen.

I think Jacob is going through the "new kid on the block" syndrome which is much harder to face when it is with peers that you knew before your long absence.  Maybe talk to him about questions kids have asked him, how he feels when he enters the classroom, ect.  Ask him if there is anything he would like his class to know about what you have all gone through.  Maybe it would be helpful for him to take some class time to talk to his class about what has been going on.   Jacob can let you k
