| We are using Talk-About Walkie Talkies from Motorola. We like them 'cause they're... cheap. But they also are pretty spotty in performance. Can anyone recommend an alternative? One of the difficulties is how to make sure we can still allow the various teaches/volunteers to contact one of us without having to leave the room. It's been great to have a Talk-About in each room and ministry-area. Any suggestions? | | Hi Chris, We have Motorola walkie-talkies in our classrooms, too. I haven't noticed any problems yet, because our campus is all on one floor and set out in a circle. I did experience problems at my last church getting signals in some areas of our campus. We used pagers AND walkie-talkies. Some of our classrooms were on a walkout basement level and we had problems getting a signal. We found that radio signals must not travel well if you have mother earth in the way! We were able to move the Pager receiver to a location near a window that improved the pagers' reception, but we still had some dead spots. We ended up adding a telephone in the main nursery classroom to help with that problem. Plus, in case of an emergency with an infant, our workers were instructed to call 911 FIRST and get us afterwards. That worked great when one of our toddlers had an allergic reaction. The paramedics arrived almost as quickly as I got the message upstairs! Hope this is helpful.

| Hey Lisa B in NC
We use our Walkie-talkies mainly for our paid staff to communicate with one another. We let each other know about fires to be put out (hopefully no real fires ) and about classroom status.
Additionally, classrooms volunteers who do not see an coach or staff member walking right by their classroom can use the radio to let us know to page someone (whether it be by using a physical pager, or by flashing the kids' number on the screen). But the campus we work on is getting bigger and bigger, and the radios we use just don't have the range we need.
Does anyone know of a solution? |

| Hi Christiaan - Do you have Nextel cellphones in your area? They come with a walkie-talkie feature. In our area they have a large range. Of course, you would still have cellphone charges to deal with...

Hi Chris,
Just curious to know if you ever solved your problem with the walkie talkies.
