| Dry ice is available in the Kroger Grocery stores in our area... the freezer case is just inside the exit doors.

| | My question is how can we use it, and how much and parents asking is it safe around kids, what if a child is curious and try to touch the smoky water? do you remove the e ice each night is it safe to let it evaporate each day what do you have to put it in, is it safe, what special handling? This is probably in the book, but I haven't got the whole can home, just the crafts right now. I wouldn't be so nervous except we had hay bales las year and a saddle on it for decor and a little o ne got loose and climbed on it and fell over and banged his head, so I'm very wary of "if it is there they will touch". |

| | Personally, I'm only planning on using it for the demonstration at the finale with the big bubble. I'll be on stage, away from the kids. Touching the mist won't hurt anyone, btw. Touching the block of ice will hurt ALOT.

| crafty (2/5/2008) My question is how can we use it, and how much and parents asking is it safe around kids, what if a child is curious and try to touch the smoky water? do you remove the e ice each night is it safe to let it evaporate each day what do you have to put it in, is it safe, what special handling? This is probably in the book, but I haven't got the whole can home, just the crafts right now. I wouldn't be so nervous except we had hay bales las year and a saddle on it for decor and a little o ne got loose and climbed on it and fell over and banged his head, so I'm very wary of "if it is there they will touch".The ice will melt completly in about 15-20 minutes depending on the size you use. Since you should do the experiment at a distance so that everyone can see it there is really no risk of kids touching the ice. If you plan to use it for a bubblig effect close to where children will be present, then I advice you have an adult next to it. Handling Dry Ice Due to its extremely cold temperature (-78.5oC, or -109.3oF), dry ice can cause damage to the skin if handled. Use tongs or insulating gloves when handling dry ice. It is also important when crushing or grinding the solid not to get any of the dust into your eyes. Wear protective goggles. Dry ice is EXTREMELY COLD and must be handled properly.
