I was reading on the old boards about making your own chalkboards using wood or foam and chalkboard paint.  I was trying to get some of my orders together and discovered that you can also buy con-tact paper that is self-adhesive on one side with a chalkboard surface on the other.  It can be cut to any shape and is less than $5 for a 18" x 6ft. roll.  I have never used it myself so I can't say how well it sticks, but it might be an option for someone.

BTW, I was "Theresa" on the old board but there seem to be an overwhelming number of us here.  Even my nickname from growing up - "Terry" - seemed to be too confusing with al the different variations of that name.

Never heard of it myself until now. Sounds like another great alternative. I will be going to Home Depot this weekend. If I find it I will get it and see what I can do.  I will most certainly added it to the SIFAR site. Thanks for the information.

I would love to give that a try, if not for VBS but for my preschool class.  It would be really nice to cut pieces of wood to mount it on, drill a hole in the top and attach a piece of twine for hanging.  You could even put it on a piece of cardboard and make it magnetic for the fridge.  Great place to leave notes to each other.

LOVE IT!

That sounds like fun to make, but not sure how much area it covers. If you get to do it let me know how much it costs for all ingredients. With a $2.40 (1/2 off coupon - reg. $4.79) can of Chalkboard Spray Paint from ACMoore I covered 3 (2 x 3 ft.) pieces of foam board and I still have paint left in the can. BTW, we got over 60 boot chalkboards with just one can.

Thanks PJ for posting the cost and area covered by one of those cans of paint. I was wondering that and just haven't ask... That is very reasonable!! Thanks again!!

I found the instructions, but am still interested in the size you made yours. I am looking at how much paint it took. Also, how long did it take to cut those 60 out?

sorry- I'm just neeeeedy today
