| | It is a touchy subject with me....and it is as I feared. He has scabies...again. I dunno what to do, so maybe this is the place to ask. He goes to his father's house every other weekend. The place it a place that I hate sending him to, but by law I must. His father is not the best dad in the world, but he is still his dad.
My son developed scabies several years ago and I thought 'no big deal, he picked it up at school'. Now understand my son is a bit of a recluse. He doesn't go anywhere other to my brothers. Well, I got him medicated (even though I was distraught thinking that this was terrible and when you think of scabies you think filth). A little bit after that, he developed it again. I thought as to where he had been and his father's popped into my head. Angry, I went over there and talked to my ex's wife and explained that Caleb had scabies and I think he got it from their place (they lived in an apt complex). She had no idea what it was so I lifted my son's shirt and showed her. She recognized it and said "X" (my son's dad) had the same rash. I told her how it wasn't a rash and it will NOT go away on it's own (that's why they call it the 7 year itch). She said she would tell "X". Again, I got him (my son) medicated and all was well.
Well, we have since moved, new school district. His father, too, has moved. And here is the third time he has gotten it and it is really bad. He is covered from head to toe. I got medication and applied it and it made it twice as bad. 90% of his body is covered with sores that itch like crazy. I got more medicine and I pray it helps releave his symptoms. No one else has it here but him. So, again, I have to look at where he picked it up. I have no idea what to do about the situation. I called his dad and he got defensive saying no one over there had it and he didn't get it from them. However, they have ppl come in and out of their house all the time so he may have picked it up anywhere. I do not want to come between my son and his dad, that is not my intentions. But I do want to know that my son's well-being is taken care of while I entrust him to his father. I feel terrible bc my son is in pain and miserable and yet his dad didn't show any concern. He is suppose to go over there this Fri but I am unsure if I want to let him...let me rephrase, I KNOW I don't want him to go there due to this. He is no longer contagious due to the medication but if he got it over there, he will just keep being infested. Anyone have any advice on what I should or can do???? Thanks to everyone.

| | Misty you may also want to check with school to see if anyone there is out of school or showing symptom. Does he stay at afterschool care? Scabies is transmitted by direct skin contact and also live for 2-3 days on clothing, bedding, carpet, etc, so it could be coming from anywhere. Poor kid must be miserable. I would also be questioning the ex especially since your son seems to get it after staying there.

| | Nope, no afterschool care or activities at the moment. Usually if there is an outbreak of any kind at school, a note is sent home to alert the parents. None has. With him having it 3 times and the only factor that is the same each time is his dad's, I can't help but assume that is where he got it. I have asked the ex and have gotten nowhere. Tough predicament, that's for sure.
