First - these are not up for grabs

My new cohort in crafts and I were looking through all the "miscellaneous" stuff in our Children's Ministry supplies, to get an idea of crafts we could do that would use up these mostly ignored materials/items. And I found a little bag of 5 "Bible Memory Bugs" - the package has no other words (just an UPC number). And I'm just curious to know where they originated from. Neither of us have been with the church very long (only about 2 years), so I don't even know if they were VBS items or not.

Let me describe them, since I don't have a camera handy to take a photo:
A bumblebee with "The Lord is my Sheppard" Psalm 23:1
An ant with "... my help comes from the Lord" Psalm 121:1-2
A dragonfly (I think) with "The Lord is gracious..." Psalm 145:8
A butterfly with "Create in me a pure heart..." Psalm 51:10
A stick bug (or praying mantis?) with "Oh Lord.... you know me" Psalm 139:1

Any insight would be appreciated - it's really only to satisfy my curiosity..... since I decided they were lonely in the big crate of "stuff" and rescued them to my home

We still have those in our house!  They are from Bug Safari!

Arnold Ant

Angelica Firefly

Buddy Bee

Stilts the Stick Bug

Betty Butterfly

They were the first set of actual bible buddies that Group made.  The year before that was Polar Expedition and I believe the "buddies" were on magnets that year and not actual figurines.

Fun stuff!

Cool! Thanks! So I have vintage buddies

I'm already crafting a way to hang them all from my rear-view mirror... My little green car is not a "BUG" but my family has nicknamed it the "aphid"

God Bless!

If you can get a hold of all the other buddies how about turning them in to Christmas Tree Ornaments? I did that one year with a ton of McDonald toys my kids had collected. I made metal eye hooks, heated them over the stove with pliers and melted them into the toys. We had a Kid's Meal Toy Tree back in 2002.

A Bible Buddy tree - that would be so cool!

I may use your idea of heating/melting eye hooks into them - but I'm still going to hang them in my car. It's one of those ideas that just won't get out of my head

It would be fun to have a set of buddies from each Group VBS, but I've only been involved with Group VBS programs since Fiesta, so I don't know that I could find the ones from before.... finding the Bugs was an awesome accident - they were at the bottom of a very large storage crate filled with 'treasure box' kind of miscellaneous toys/items. We went through that crate item by item, so if there had been any other bible buddies in there - I would have found them!

Try asking on the "Previous VBS" buy/sell thread and you may find someone willing to part with what you want

The SCUBA set is cute bacause they are water squirters

He who works his land will have abundant food, but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

I still have them since they were my favorite. I really like the new PL ones too. They make great key chains!

I have all of them since Scuba...they are all so cute...but I agree...the Scuba ones are the best since they squirt. (We still often use them in the pool!)
