| Hello everyone. I have a question about the costumes that could be used for Jerusalem Marketplace. We plan on making our own with just colored t-shirts and other things. However, I noticed that alot of the children pictured in the catalog and in the website video are wearing the same blue robe. Here's what I'm talking about:
They seem to look less like fabric and more like paper-ish. You know, like the lab coats students wear in their school labs. (If anyone knows what I'm talking about) Anyways, since so many of the children throughout the catalog are shown wearing them, I was thinking they might be cheap. Does anyone have any information about what these robes are, where you can get them, and how much they cost? Any information would be VERY appreciated.

Last year we discovered that we could get pillowcases really cheap at places like Value Village or Goodwill. One of my staff happened to be at Value Village and found them on sale for 50 cents each. This year we are looking NOW for striped or solid color sheets and pillowcases at that type of store, and hoping to get quite a few by June. We will make the pillowcases into costumes for kids, and use the sheets for either costumes or decorating in the marketplace. I asked at church this weekend if anyone likes to shop at 2nd hand stores, and probably 5 ladies' hands shot up. I now have at least 2 who will be making regular runs to the stores for me, and they told me they will probably not even turn their receipts in. (I told them to also keep an eye out for pots or vases that we can paint to look like clay jars and baskets and anything else that might make good props.) Then we have 2 or 3 ladies already starting to sew.
The other thing we thought of last year that did not work for us was to ask hotels for donations of old linens. We thought we could dye them different colors to make costumes. Unfortunately the person who was going to contact the hotels quit her job that gave her access to them, and never did get back to ask. But that might be another good source of fabric.

Walmart has a fabric table of $1.00 per yard. You might be able to get some fabric there. I really like the idea of using pillow cases. I think I am going to start hitting the second hand stores.

God Bless! Angie

I've heard about this Value Village twice already on these forums. Unfortunately, there isn't one in my area. However, we're going to try calling hotel chains in town for linens. In the meantime, Goodwill is probably going to have to be our main supplier of goods I guess.

| When I did Bethlehem Village Parties, we made a costume that was no sew. For adults, it was 3 yards of fabric, which was folded in half CROSSWISE then folded in half length wise. A circle is cut in the center of that for a head and is slit slightly down one of the folds for ease of putting on. Don't make the hole too big or it will fall off. It is not sewn on the sides but just tied with fabric or whatever you wish for a belt. We made a pile of these for the kids for Bethlehem Village when we did it a year ago by using 2 yards of fabric for each and I bought brown twiny rope and cut lengths for belts. Each kid arrived, grabbed a costume and a rope and off we went. We still make any costume we need this way because if fits whoever has to wear it since the sides aren't closed up.

| Mal, Even though I sewed all our costumes (kids included) your idea is the fastest, easiest and less costly, especially if you can get fabric for $1 a yard or even better, donated sheets from hotels!

| Mal, I was thinking of doing exactly what you had done for the robes.....thank you for posting how much fabric you used. I was wondering how much fabric I needed. I am lucky because our ladies at church said I could have 4 bins of fabric and a pile of sheets that had been collected to make quilts. For each tribe......instead of buying bandanas, I am planning to have each tribe use a different color sash for their belt that coordnates with the tribe color. It shouldn't take much fabric and they can done ahead of time. Denise

| Do a web search for bible costumes. Some of the novelty companies have them.
