| | Lock-in overnight events are very popular with preteens. We are planning to host a Lock-in this spring and am looking for activities and theme ideas that will be big hits with the kids. Especiallly looking for activities for the after midnight ideas.... anything but sleeping!

| | Lisa, I host a lock-in each spring for the 6th graders--my last HaRah with them before they go to youth. I usually plan an activity pretty often--however, I've also learned this group likes to simply "hang out" and play board games and basketball, air hockey, etc. Memorable games: --"What's That!"--OK before you gross out--let me warn you, this is gross
Take diapers and place a candy bar in the center of each one--microwave them for 15-30 seconds depending on your microwave. Kids then have to guess what type of candy it is. Warning-Snickers look REALLY gross. Kids still talk about this one from year to year. --Marshmallow shooting contest
Give kids miniature marshmallows. They have to stick 1 in their nose and hold the other side and blow. The marshmallow that goes the furthest wins. --Spam Carving Contest
Have kids pair up and give them a can of Spam (ok-I use the off brand from WalMart--do you know how expensive a can of spam is?). Pairs have 5 minutes to create a work of art out of this fine delicacy. This is another one they kids really get into. Of course, the night wouldn't be complete without a water gun fight (in the dark) around the church at about 3 AM. Beware--cops seem to come and visit when they see a bunch of kids creeping around bushes at that time in the morning!!!! Hope this helps!

| | Lisa, we recently purchase a Wii for our family. I would LOVE to use it for an overnight (or not even overnight!) with the teens. And we can hook it up to our projector and put it on a BIG screen. You can bowl, box, play pool, ping pong, etc. The fun thing would be to create a tournament chart and have the kids all playing one another in a particular game!

| | Wii is a great idea! I really needed a birthday gift idea for my husband and this might just take care of both! (If he will agree to let me borrow it for a night!) Of course, I'm sure one of our children have Wii and they could share. I hear that EVERYONE loves to do the Dancing game... Especially with the Christian praise songs. I think several of our children have them so I could get them to bring those along... Turn the event into a games night/lock-in..... If they get our computer wireless connection, I could even let them play the games on Grapple website. The kids enjoy the skiing game.

| | Jeremy - I am NOT grossed out! Those game ideas are sooooo cool! I might even use one of them for our Club56 meeting this Sunday night! The Spam art sounds like something they will think is cool. I might, however, save the marshmallow game for after the cold season is over.... Don't want to get bonus projectile matter with the marshmallows.
