In the past we have only used the cd & video. However this year we are trying to add "live music" My praise band has asked for chord & lyric sheets. Are these available?

We have never used the piano song sheets.  We use the DVD and CD... if we needed words, before power point, we used an overhead.  I love the music.  That is the one thing that we use all the time.  This is our 5th time with Group VBS, and we save all the CD's and DVDs and play them throughout the year at our Sunday School openings, for our kids club etc.  This years music is awesome.. and they all have a great message.  We have made song sheets at one time or another, but since we acquired a power point, we just use it or a DVD player....

God bless, and keep up the great work!

WE love song sheets.  Not necessarily with the music but with the words.

We use the overhead sheets and the CD. This year it was a nice surprise to find the DVD video of the songs and movements in the starter kit! We are going to use that as well, hoping it will help the kids learn the actions easier. (Less time explaining the motions when they are learning the songs.)

Great job!

Lisa

In past years we have used the DVD and thoroughly enjoyed the ease of having a fun, bouncy song time. However, this year's DVD is not suitable for our church to use. I am VERY disappointed about this and will be instead using the CD and a pianist for some of the songs that have too much guitar and drum. So I am grateful for the song book and description of motions that came with the kit this year.

On a bit of a different note, I wish Group would not continue this trend of "praise band" style songs complete with stage (or band on the beach/schoolyard/church) and dancing preteens/teens - or at least give an option of 4/5 songs that are more acoustic in style and younger children (actual elementary kids) in the videos. While I LOVE the curriculum and everything else they do - this did disappoint me this year.

I respectfully disagree...I think the music is great and exactly what you need for VBS.  The kids in the videos all look elementary age and then the occasional leader in the mix.  I also appreciate that many of the songs are already hymns or praise songs that the kids are familar with. Also...besides the theme songs, which serves its purpose as just that as it is reiterating the points of the week...The songs are very God centered.  Songs with words like "God of wonders, you are Holy"...and a constant anthem of "He is Lord, Lord, Lord"...plus 2 of the greatest Hymns ever written...then they throw in songs taken right out of scripture.  My only problem with it is having too many favorites!

MissyL,

Thank you for your response. I want to start by saying that I really do love what Group does in their VBS curriculum. It is well done and easy to use. I also understand your position regarding the music - and you (along with many others) probably think I am a loon. I actually love all music - including the selections for this year's VBS. However, the culture of my church and community would dictate that many (not all) of these arrangements and/or videos actually push the limits of what is considered acceptable. And, in the interest of being all things to all people (a la Paul) and also a director who needs volunteers to reach children, I would rather not start a fight with anyone over music (especially since it is such a hot topic and has literally split many churches). VBS is all about reaching kids for Christ and FUN!

My point in posting this - is not to debate, but to ask Group to consider the more conservative churches who may not want (or are actually offended by) really contemporary stuff. Contemporary vs. Traditional is an old debate - but I believe that it is possible to blend the two and that Group is up for the challenge of giving every church the tools they need to be successful. I would just love to be able to use more of the music DVD that came in the can. I used to depend on it and this year, I will need to get creative. With a lot of kids and fewer adults (and no band or talented song leader - meaning me!) - that can get challenging. (hence my disappointment)

It will be interesting - but also great to see what God will do! Best wishes for a fun filled week at Power Lab in your church!

FourHim, I'm sorry..I didn't mean to offend you.  I understand about the cultural problems.  I'm glad that you yourself are able to appreciate and enjoy the music.  I hope God uses it to bless our own personal worship time.

I would guess that from Groups stand point, majority rules as far as the music goes.  Most Churches do like this kind of music for VBS, so it is easier for a Church that doesn't like it to cut it out and supplement with less contemperary than it is for a Church that does like it to find alternatives.

Either way, I hope you are able to find the balance you need for your VBS!

And I don't think you are a loon!
