Shalom, to all you Group Holy Land adventurers! I am excited to be a "newbie" in the Group VBS department, having started as assistant editor last June. You can imagine what a blast it is to work with all the really fun and creative people here!

As we move forward with our terrific upcoming programs (yep, working on 2009!) we would appreciate your feedback on the usefulness of the piano song sheets which are printed in the song leader manual.

(1) Do you use the song sheets for your VBS singing time, or do you only use the CD and/or video?

(2) If you use the song sheets, do you generally use piano only or add other instruments?

(3) Does your accompanist like having the full accompaniment written out, or would a chord chart with melody line--such as many church worship bands use--be sufficient?

We want to give you the best tools possible to help you with your VBS program, so please let us know whether or not what we are providing is what you need. We value your input—so please share your thoughts and experiences!

We do not use song sheets.  We have enjoyed the music DVD and CD.

We use dvd & cd. This gives the kids a chance to dance and do motions, which they really like. This year we will be adding our own cd & powerpoint the words on a screen.

I use my children's choir to help me teach the songs during VBS week.  In the spring, I teach the songs at choir practice and we also learn the motions and dances.  For these rehearsals, I use the printed music because I can just read the chords and play the piano.  We don't ever perform the songs with live musical accompaniment and we don't ever use Power Point.  We give all the kids a CD when they register so they can be listening to the music before VBS even starts.

I use the DVD and CD's during VBS and hand off the sheet music to the praise band leader. Usually they will learn some of our VBS songs and add them to the Praise and Worship on Sunday AM's.

We have given the CD & DVD's to our Gathering Leader and assistant ahead of time. Our Gathering assistant is a teen who gets all her friends singing the songs with her, and they learn all the words and motions long before VBS time. Since most of them are also staff, we have a bunch of enthusiastic teens who help the rest of us learn the songs. We have not used the DVD or sheet music during VBS--just the CD--but all of it has been useful to us, so I would hate to see any of it go away!

The other thing we do is to give out a music CD to each family as they register or at the beginning of VBS. The kids learn the songs ahead of time in many cases, and it is easy to teach them the motions when VBS starts. I was really skeptical of the idea at first, but someone donated money the first year, with the specific purpose of giving each family a CD, and it went over so well we have just worked it into our budget ever since.

Hi, we have already given our gathering leader the DVD and CD. I don't think that we would use the piano sheets at this time. The kids love the CD's and music, and our gathering leader is super at teaching the kids the steps to the dances and the songs. We had great success last year. One comment about the music this year.. it would have been nice to have more new songs this year, it just seems kind of lacking, we are looking for 3 more songs to add to our program. Just a suggestion. Blessings

This will be our fourth year of doing Holyland Adventure. We have never used the song sheets, only the DVD and CD. Hope this helps.
