Just a thought from a concerned individual.....

Do you know that the labor that Oriental Trading uses is both child labor and prison labor? The prison labor is often persecuted Christians.....so, while the "cost" is lower, the "actual" cost is very high to humans in China.

Did you know that Group does NOT use this type of labor in the production of its crafts?.....at this point in my life, stuff like that matters more than dollars and cents....

Just my opinion....but, thought maybe that some of you may not know this information.

Actually many of the items Group sells ARE made in China. Take the Bible buddies, the slime beakers and many others for example. While 95% of OTC products are made in China The truth can be said of most of the "cheaper" items we buy from Dollar Stores or even Walmart! Such statement as yours could be interpreted as "anti-competitor propaganda" by those who do not believe that you mean well. Oriental Trading has grown into a leading national retailer and unless you mindfully make an effort not to buy anything made in China (almost impossible) then you cannot use this fact against them or any particular company. Forgive me if my opinion on your comment sounds insensitive. I honestly belief you have a genuine concern, but unless we boycott every company that sells items "Made in China" then we just can't "throw away the baby with the bath water".

Partnering with parents to "TRAIN" up our children in the way they should go!

Alternate ideas...

We're going to use the tornado tube connectors (I think that is what Oriental Trading calls them).  We'll put some blue glitter and a foil confetti cross in it.  Then I made labels that say "Jesus is with us even in stormy times, so I know not to be afraid.  Jesus gives us the power to be brave."

We will be doing something similar to the grass guy - but a grass lab, instead.  It is a cup decorated with lab stickers.  Then we will add a paper doll (similar to the radical rez in look) that "rises" up (on a popsicle stick).

We are also doing the cute O.T. foam picture frames.  We will have labels that say "With my smile I will proclaim His Good News.  Jesus gives us the power to tell others about God."

Ours starts Monday 6/9 - your prayers for my sanity and a successful week are much appreciated!

I definitely do not want to support child labor or anything like it.  But, I also just thought it was important to point out that not everything "MADE IN CHINA" was made by child laborers.  There are many Christian companies that have opened up factories there so that people have jobs and are then in an environment to learn about Christ.  I'm sure there are many unfortunate factory situations there, but I would not boycott all China made items because there are some child labor factories.  If we do so, we'll also be hurting those who are doing good works in the country.

I had the same idea about going with the alternate crafts, UNTIL I attending one of the workshops.  I totally did not want to make slime, but in the workshop when we did it, it was fun!  I even continued to play with it once we went to other activities!  My teachers that attended the workshop w/me agreed and we are actually doing the recommended craft!

Good luck!
