Hi everyone, this is my first post, but I have been enjoying the forum for several years. I have really appreciated everyone's ideas. They have been such a blessing.
I have been searching for cheap test tubes and came across this website for bathsalts containers. They have several different kinds. I think they would work and they are not a bad price.

I know this isn't the best way to get things...but...if you search for bar items you can find neon test tubes at about $25-$35 for 100.  No cork but you could use some easter/colored saran wrap and those tiny hair rubberbands.

I have not found a cheap test tube yet but I am using empty baby food jars without the label as specimen jars.  I used black permenant marker on the lids so they are all black.  I am going to fill the jars with plastic lizards, spiders, butterflies, hair gel for ooze, eyeballs,  anything else I can find.

I ordered the baby soda bottle test tubes from Steve Spangler's webstie - they are AWESOME! We're going to be making mini lava lamps with them. They were $50 for 120 (they come in smaller quantities too). They are great quality!

Good luck and God bless

OK, I've got to know - How are you going to make them into mini lava lamps?  Will they have a power cord and really light up?

I found inexpensive plastic test tubes with lids here (see link below) for .16 - .35 and higher. (depending on the mml size)  if you want to put your churches name and/or "Power Lab" on each tube, there is a $20.00 set up fee.

Steve Spangler has a "recipe" for lava lamps
One clean, plastic soda bottle (16 oz. size works well)
- Soda bottle cap
- Vegetable oil (the cheaper the better)
- Food coloring
- An Alka-Seltzer tablet
- Water

* Fill the bottle 3/4 full with vegetable oil.
* Fill the rest of the bottle with water (almost to the top but not overflowing).
* Add about 10 drops of food coloring. Be sure to make the water fairly dark in color. Notice that the food coloring only colors the water and not the oil. Hmmm?
* Divide the Alka-Seltzer tablet into 8 pieces.
* Drop one of the tiny pieces of Alka-Seltzer into the oil and water mixture. Watch what happens. When the bubbling stops, add another chunk of Alka-Seltzer. It’s just like a lava lamp!
* When you have used up all of the Alka-Seltzer and the bubbling has completely stopped, screw on the soda bottle cap. Tip the bottle back and forth and watch the wave appear. The tiny droplets of liquid join together to make one big lava-like blob.

We are doing them on Monday when we are "Bubbling" over with Thanks for Jesus

Check out the video on Steve Spangler - they look really cool!

Thanks for sharing the details.  I will check out the site. BTW, please keep us in your prayers.  Just came out of a budget meeting, and my VBS budget has been cut <img src="http://forums.group.com/Skins/Blue/Images/EmotIcons/w00t.gif" width=20 border=0>!  Alternative crafts - here I come! (actually we do alternative crafts anyway, now they are going to be alternate to the alternative).

Janet/Gwen, that is the same experiment I have on my website. I also have a video that shows how easy it is to make. Check it out at Dr. Blinstein's Laboratory. Send me a PM for the web address/link.
