| | We are doing Serengeti Trek for VBS this year at our church. Since it is an older program, no vinyl banners are available. I am trying to decide what to use for a yard sign. I have a nice outdoor sign that was leftover from a promotion at my office. Could I cover it with white contact paper and then use permanent marker for the lettering? I have looked at custom lettered vinyl banners with grommets. But they are out of our price range. I have also seen a fabric outdoor banner from Oriental Trading, that you decorate yourself with fabric paint. I was wondering if this might withstand the weather for a couple of weeks in our church yard. Any inexpensive ideas? Thanks! Angela Allenbrand First Presbyterian Church Wamego, KS |

| How about wood/paint?? don't know how it would compare in price, but you could use overhead projector to draw and then paint from your starter kit pictures.

| Check ebay as well. There are a lot of ppl that will custom make banners, different sizes, colors, etc and the cost isn't too outrageous. Just an option.

| Have you checked the boards under the buy sell donate category to see if someone has a banner? Even if it is written on, you could at least cover that part up.

| | Just a thought. A large animal (wood or corrugated plastic) will draw a lot more attention than a banner. You could leave a space on it for the info. |

| | I think the outdoor banner will hold up - I hope so - we are ordering one!! We will have the Group banner outside our building, but we are back a "No Outlet" street - not so great visability - so we put another banner/sign up at the corner to let people know great things are happening down the street! PS - I just uploaded a signature and avatar-- don't know how they will work - I could not switch to HTML, which I read somewhere you need to do. (I don't even know the size) Oh well, is it all vanity anyway??? Gwen with River Treehouse

| | My kids (ages 3 and 5) and I made an awesome ST sign last year. It was more of just a welcome sign, but you could add other information. We got 2 wooden pallets and attached them together. We found some old weathered strips of wood and wrote "welcome to Africa" on them with spray insulation foam. We attached them to the pallets. I had my kids each draw an African animal and cut it out of plywood. They painted their animal and we attached that to the pallets as well. We stood the pallets up and braced them with a big log and a 2x4. We had a few extra tiki torches, so we put one on each side of the sign. It was one of our easiest and most complimented decorations. |

| If you know a group/facility/organization that purchases from Pepsi, Coke or RC, you might be able to talk to them about donating a banner. We receive one every year through the fire department that has a soda machine. One corner of the banner has their soda logo on it, but if you turn it over, it's blank. It already has the grommets in place, and everything...VERY nice.

| Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions! I work for an insurance company and they gave me an old vinyl banner with grommets that has been used at a sales meeting several years ago. It was destined for the trash anyway. I am planning to use some stencils and spray paint and transform it into a VBS banner. Angela A. First Presbyterian Church Wamego, KS |
