OK VBS junkies...how much do you think you contribute out of pocket over the course of getting ready for your VBS?

I ask because last year I held onto a couple hundred dollars worth of receipts until after VBS to see if I could turn them in budget wise.  I'm not rich, so I'm wondering about some of you others.  Some stuff I feel like if I turn the receipt in, it belongs to the church and what is the church going to do with all that stuff.  If I buy it, I feel better about using it later.

I don't think I ever want to know.  But I can guarantee you it is a couple hundred each year by the time it's all said and done.

Like you, I'd rather just own some of the stuff outright and know I can loan it, use it, pitch it when I feel like.

I agree.  Probably a couple hundred dollars.  I would also rather buy a lot myself and keep it for future use.

I do the same.  Some of the things I purchase out of pocket is because it is things I want for the children to have and the budget is so stretched they could not have it other wise.  Also, supply wise I like being able to get rid of things when they are no longer needed and the church does not have the storage space for much!

OK... lets see if this works.  I uploaded some pics to Shutterfly of some of the things I made for Sunday night.

When I was able to, I usually spent a couple hundreds myself. I seldomly turned in receipts (unless it went over $200) because I viewed it as my financial contribution to the ministry. Since I am the Children's Pastor/Minsitry Director I've been given the freedom to use the items I purchased in any church related activity (lend, alter, dispose). Of course the senior pastor has had no problems in allowing me to use some of the stuff for my kids' birthday parties as well.

Partnering with parents to "TRAIN" up our children in the way they should go!

I'm not sure I want to think about that and I even have a great budget.  I'm sure between my husband and I that we spend a couple hundred dollars on top of the cash that we donate to the VBS fund.  However, with that said, I do think that my family personally benefits from this program in so many ways.  The best being when my oldest son accepted Jesus as his forever friend at Avalanche Ranch.  How do you really put a price on that?

Trying Again!

OK...these are some of my cheap out of pockets for this week.  The buckets are from Dollar Tree.( I liked these because they have sparkles inside)  The wooden cut outs are from Hobby Lobby.  The little sign at the top is covered at the bottom in the picture, but its says "Volunteering for POWER LAB was a RED HOT idea!  Thanks for signing up!"
The buckets are then filled with boxes of red hots for each volunteer to take when they sign up.

These are table centerpieces.  Again buckets from Dollar tree, foam sheets from Dollar Tree, and wood cut outs from Hobby Lobby (2 for a dollar)  The inside is just paper filler, and then the sparkly things are from Dollar Tree.  I just put a little piece of floral foam in the bottom of the bucket to hold them in place.
Power Lab sticker is just made on sticker paper.

Close Up...

Those are wonderful!  We don't have a Hobby Lobby.    Did the wood cut-outs come painted like that?
