| | Yes! They had 8 different kinds, of which I bought all 8. They are a little bit textured too meaning parts of them feel furry, for lack of a better term. I'd be glad to pick some up and mail them out if you want some.

| Correction on the furry comment...some of them are trimmed with Felt. Like the boy and girl, there lab coats are made of felt. Not bad for 50 cents!

| | I donate an unknown about - a little here, a little there. I know that others on the VBS staff donate generously as well. My challenge with this comes to budget time. I really think the congregation needs to know the real cost to put on this program. If they want to keep the quality program we have been able to provide because of our generous donators, they need to be prepared to pay up to that amount if we come to a year that the donations are not there. I don't think it right to count on the donations - they are gifts. The budget needs to reflect the ture cost even though we are sure that amount will not be spent. I do purchase and donate all craft supplies and weekly "gifts" for Sunday School - That is so I can help myself to the materials for other needs at church and day school. My thought is that whatever is available (unless specifically earmarked for an upcoming project) is available for anyone. I believe my Kings Kid's leader feels the same and I will use items from her area (like yarn) when needed. We will soon have a cupboard for Sunday School and I plan on merging VBS, Sunday School, and Kings Kids materials so they are available to each other and anyone else (sometimes the Puppets are looking for art supplies for example). I am going to supply the basics (construction paper, glue, fabric scraps, yarn, scissors, ect.). I am so excited to have this cupboard done. Missy, I love your buckets. It really is amazing how creative minds can come up with inexpensive items that are priceless for the message they send. When a thank you touches the heart, tickles the funny bone, or just has that "Oh how cool" effect, it has done its job well. Most of the time it just takes creativity without much funds to do so. I really believe that best part of VBS is the energy volunteers bring to use whatever is necessary to bring the best program to the kids. God is having His talents shine for our kids!!!

| As a general rule to myself if the receipt is under $10 I do not turn it in. It doesn't sound like much but when decorating and getting ready all of those trips to Wal-Mart or the Dollar Store really add up. I also use my own money when doing things for the workers. Last year I supplied all of the food/drinks and favors for the break room. I just think that because they help ME so much I should do this for them out of my own pocket.

| | The church pays for any big ticket items. But if I buy little things for decorations, volunteers, or gifts I usually just pay for it out of pocket. We have to verify that everything the church pays for was actually used for VBS (quite a difficult job, sometimes). So it's easier to buy those extra things out of pocket usually. God Bless, Matt

| | I feel sorry for you guys out there without a Hobby Lobby...if I'm ever lost, that's the first place my family checks! Haha. Hobby Lobby is the same as Crafts ETC. they're owned by the same company if any of you guys have those around. Michaels also has lots of stuff like that! God Bless, Matt

| oh gosh...I usually spend 100-200 out-of-pocket. If it is something that I can use in the future, I will usually go ahead and pay for it myself. Also, I don't usually turn in receipts for the inevitable 5 dollar walmart runs. I found out Sunday that the finance committee is implementing a purchase-order system. Basically, I won't be able to turn in receipts for anything that i just "run across" and buy. I will have to know ahead of time if I want to be reimbursed. We will see how this goes...

Check out VBS Groupies for resources to help with the planning of your VBS. |
