| | Im just wondering if how did you do the staff training. Did you follow the directions in the director's manual? How was it? If not, what are the changes you made to make it simplier. Nice

| If this is your first year doing Group I suggest you do it according to the manual. The Training DVD covers basically every essential, which helps in answering many of the questions your staff may have. In addition I find that the activities are effective in breaking the ice when there are new volunteers. It also provides a very relax and fun filled time of fellowship. However, after a couple of years you may just want to show the DVD and do just a couple of things from the manual. Depending on your time and the experience of your staff you don't always have to do EVERYTHING that is in the manuals.

| | I agree with pastor joe. I did the training the first year the way Group wrote it because the church had no idea where this program was going. Now I select the parts necessary for refreshing their minds and exposing them to what's new. Volunteers are special people. I strive to never have more meetings than are necessary and never longer than they need to be because I didn't plan accordingly. |

| Thanks PJ and Mal ! The staff training in the manual looks good. I just need to familiarize myself with it. This will be my first time. I think I will do that. "I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me"

| | I cut and pasted the training "script," adding things specific to our program and deleting what I didn't want to include. Then assigned speaking parts and cueing responsbiltity beside each segment and copied for the presenters. Our presenters flowed seamlessly from one part to the next. It was sooooo easy! I think volunteers like being treated as par of a first rate operation. The provided training gives the right balance of discussion, songs, interaction, video to demonstrate that yours is a top notch vbs... and that will ultimately bring out the best in your volunteers. |

| | At my JM training I was thinking about actually getting up and dancing and singing with the CD, like my volunteers were the kids that night. What do you think? Would your volunteers do it? I would really like for them all to know the theme song. --Matt

| I'm not familiar with JM, but from AR and PL, I'm pretty sure my leaders (especially the first timers) would need the kids around in order to let their guard down... just the same as the mixed ages philosophy for the crews! It works on adults as well as children  |

| | When we do training we act as if we were the kids, so we learn every song (and actions), etc. We have a great time. Of course I have taught my staff through the years that if you want to reach children you have to get on their level. None of us has any pride when it comes to working with children, we just want to do our best to help (1) connect them to God and (2) have a good time. |
