I want to give them something special but cheap.  I am thinking a goody bag with candies, thank you note , keychain or a photo inside with their crew to remember the kids they touched that year.

Maybe I can put the crew/staff photo inside a test tube for souvenirs. Station leaders can be a mug and a photo inside of the staff.   Any more ideas for the station leaders' gifts?

Nice

I am having a station leader meeting on Friday - this is our first ever VBS. I wanted to do a big kickoff. Any ideas on food to serve that will go with the power lab theme?? Any recommendations on what to do or not do? Any advice or input would be great!
Thanks!

When we first started doing VBS 5 years ago, I gave small trinkets to my teen and adult volunteers and found myself obsessing over it way too much! The  adults said many times they did not want me spending money on them- they gain so much from the week.

So last summer , one mom hosted a VBS volunteer appreciation  party at her house. It was pot luck and BYOB- not everyone could come, but we had a great time!!

For the teens , I simply send them a $5 local ice cream gift card in the mail with a thank you note.

This was so much easier  while still thanking them in some way that would not be thrown out the next day- who needs another mug or keychain??

Last year my assisant director and I got together and purchased a sheet cake decorated with our theme. We had it say Thanks for all your Help. The last meeting we had together they shared the cake and a time of fellowship. Also we had gone to the dollar store and I had found plactic ice cream cone shaped containers inside each one a put  small snack size candies to go on top of ice cream. Such as peanuts, m & m's, Oreo cookies, candy bars. Next we brought in a couple gallons of ice cream and they had cake and their personal ice cream sundae. Everyone enjoyed!

If you take a picture of anything PL related to Sam's, Krogers, etc. they will duplicate the picture on the cake. THis woul dbe neat.

We do an annual CM workshop and have lots of speakers, helpers, etc.  We used to try to give away something. What we found was (a) it killed our budget, (b) it was hard to find anything that people might keep (we all have too much stuff). So we opted to do either candy/food or to take everyone to eat somewhere.

I love the idea of a meal together afterwards.  This is my first year as director.  Last year, I really didn't need the thank you mug I got as a volunteer.  It was nice, but we have over 45 volunteers, and I know I can't afford even a dollar a piece right now.  Having a "bring something to share" meal is an idea I can get behind!  Thanks!

I have two ideas:

1.  definately do a meal, preferably at someone's home.  I planned a pot luck last year (our first vbs in many years) because many volunteers expressed an interest in meeting people.  we do it prior to vbs.  i think the fellowship feels a bit more personal and sincere at a home... it's less of a church event, more of a true gathering of friends.  sort of a breaking barriers kinda thing, taking it beyond sunday worship and out into the "real" world!

2.  we found clip magnets at Dollar Tree with an insert area for a photo.  They are 2/$1.  We are going to insert "Well Done!" - God into the opening.  We will invert the clips and stand them on a display table holding notes of thanks, maybe some photos if we get 'em.  This idea came from a Volunteer Central wire & cube photo display.  I've given the materials to my volunteer in charge of this, so I don't have the scripture verse for you, but it's something like "Well done good and faithful servant."  I'll try to get it from her soon and post it.

I have done the dinner at my home and you are right people are much more relaxed. Last year we had a western theme. Thanks for the idea about the photo magnets.

Found it! The scripture for the "Well Done" - God magnets is from Matthew 25:14-30,  The Parable of the Three Servants.  I found a helpful article about the parable at the link below.
