| Hello, I just got an email from my seasoned Music Director who is one of my station leaders. In the past, we have been doing rotations not like Power Labs curriculum wherein Sonic, Sing and PLay is like an opening ceremony. All children with different ages will be there. We did rotations for a different curriculum bec its easier for smaller groups to teach them the songs. We usually include these songs in the last day party for parents to see. So the whole week is more of practicing for Friday's performance. She has been teaching kids music as a profession and I really want to follow Group's and try it this time. I think she is saying that it has been a problem in the past if they are not grouped accdg to their ages. How did it go with your experience following Group's curriculum? Did the chilren learned the songs and actions with ease even if they are mix ages? Did the Sonic leader have difficulties teaching 100 kids at the same time? What did you show the parents on the last day party? Thanks! Nice

| We give out the CD's upon registration and we run he video for every song the entire week we sing and when we present our songs to parents. We sing only in the opening and closing--no extra time to learn the songs because the purpose isn't to learn music but to learn to worship so the focus isn't to dwell on the performance but to dwell on the heart. I had a problem many years ago with someone who wanted a separate music component and age divided as well. I ended up not solving it in a stellar way but made an executive decision to do it Group's way. She was not very happy, refused to help with VBS in any way and was angry at me for awhile. Today, she has acknowledged it works great, has returned at various times to be a part of VBS, and understands that it wasn't about her but what might be best for the kids and she recognizes that Group's VBS is indeed the right thing for us at this point. I rely on the fact that Group has a good track record, has tested the components and created a package deal that if followed, gets the best result. I try to not change crafts, snacks, or the time allotted for each site so as to carry it out their way. I paid the money for their knowledge and creative powers--why am I reinventing something that works? I recognize the need to alter time because of that constraint but I don't quite understand the need to add a music component or worry about teaching the songs. If you reread through the materials, I believe you'll find Group addresses this as well. If this is your first time using Group, it's actually easier to just bite the bullet and decide to try it all as written this year and see how it works. When you assume the music won't work or the age groups mixed won't work, I don't think you are giving it a chance.

| Thanks Mal, I just need a boost. I am a newbie to VBS directing and even using Group. Its just intimidating when people stress that they have been doing it for years and their system works. We won't purchase the individual cds for the kids cause it takes a lot in the budget. We are hosting 100 kids. I will try to calculate again if I can fit the cds to the budget. Nice

I think it's also important to stress that what we are doing is not teaching a song but teaching children how to worship together. So it's a different focus than music class.

Thanks Peggy. I will take note of that and hopefully my music director will catch the vision and shift from teaching mode to worship mode
