| | Hello fellow "POWER LABers"! Let me start by saying that I have been "lurking" around these forum boards for the last three years! What a great bit of inspiration and help you all have been without even knowing it! God has used many of you in great ways and I thank you for all that you have provided our children's ministry with. Now, I find myself with a question that I need some help with and thought to ask some of you for ideas. This is our third year doing Group VBS and our attendance keep growing, PTL! Therefore our staff is growing as well. We have approximately 150 - 200 children in attendance at our VBS and many of them are staff children, probably around 50 - 60 of them. My question is this: We have staff devotions each morning before VBS starts for about 15 minutes or so. Do you have any ideas of what we can do with the staff kids while my adults are preparing their hearts and minds for those few minutes? We have tried having them sit with their parents, bringing something quiet to do, this hasn't worked so well and can be a distraction to those around. Any ideas that you have would be so appreciated! Thanks again so much for all the help that you have been! Looking forward to another God Blessed VBS! Janet

| | Maybe if you had a video for them? A few short videos would work, one for each day, or if you wanted to show one video you could show just a little bit of the video each day. How long does your meeting with your workers last? |

| | We have evening VBS which starts with staff devotions. The staff children, and others who come early, are instructed to be outside and enjoy the play equipment or just visit until the bell rings for VBS to start. We assign an adult to be the outside supervisor and usually have an extra teen or two around as well. Yes, they miss out on the devotions, but it is necessary to have someone outside in case there is a problem. Usually those volunteers are 'floaters' for the rest of the evening or they may even go home if not needed elsewhere. Blessings, Meg |

| | All of the ideas posted are good, but do require some supervision, so the person would have to be willing to miss your devotion time. Anyway, perhaps these kids could go over the songs and motions with the DVD, and then be the leaders at Sing 'n' Play! |

| | What about using a few teens, having them come in early, and either work on music or even a simple devotion with them. Some of our teens are very good with the little kids, and could easily give the children a devotion. |

| Thanks so much for your ideas! There are some good ones and I will be passing along these to my co-director! If you have any others, don't be shy to send it along... no idea is too far out there for us, we are willing to try most anything!

| | The majority of our children are "staff" children or are driven by staff, so we too run into this problem. Last year we started serving dinner early for the children that come in early and we have 3 kitchen staff ladies and some teens that watch over the kids while we do our devotions, then the staff can go eat at the normal time. The kids that finish eating early can mingle. You can just make a point to say a special prayer with the kitchen staff before everyone arrives. My kitchen staff leaves after they clean up from dinner. We haven't tried this, but it may work, you could have two devotions one for the staff without kids, so they can watch the "staff" children for the second staff devotion - make sense? Blessings,

| | I was thinking the same thing. The Chadder in space video was from quite awhile ago and would tie in somewhat with the lab theme. |
