We just were notified that we will be getting a new Pastor the end of July or the beginning of August.  It will be so nice to have a shepherd for our flock!  We have had so many health issues at our church.  We have lost several members to illness and others are fighting cancer and other illnesses.  Thank you for your prayers!

I can feel your excitement! Our last pastor was called to a new church in January of 2005. (That's not a typo.) As Presbyterians, we have been waiting for the Holy Spirit to send the correct person to our Pastor Nominating Committee. They were just able to announce on Wednesday evening that someone has agreed to serve here in our ministry. He will be preaching a candidacy sermon on Sunday, (Pentecost). We will then vote at a meeting following the service. Unless something is very unusual, he should be accepted and be able to begin here in July. Ah, the joys of being a Presbyterian. It has been a very long time, but I truly believe the Holy Spirit has sent the perfect person to us.

Great news Teri!

I rejoice with you all. I agree that there is much more confidence, trust and ease of spirit when there is a shepherd who we can turn to. My prayer is that you continue the path that God has set forth for you, the staff and the entire congregation. May the Lord's hand be upon you all and lead your through the heart of your new pastor.

MIC 5:4 He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD,in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.

I share your joys of being a Presbyterian. Our Presbyterian Church has also been without a permanent pastor for over a year. We lost our pastor, due to a scandal in May 2006. At that time, our elders said it would be two years (best case scenario) until we would have a permanent pastor again. So I understand the length of time this takes with the Presbyterian Church.

When the pastor was asked to resign, we also lost a number of families in our congregation (including our former co-directors of VBS.) The VBS program looked like it would also be lost, until I started asking questions about it, and suddenly I was accidentally the director! LOL I directed VBS for the first last year and used the Fiesta curriculum. Planning and executing VBS gave our congregation something positive to concentrate on, during that difficult time. We were able to rebuild some of the unity that we lost earlier that summer. It turned out to be a great time of healing for all us. We were able to come together to host this event, even without the leadership of a pastor.

A year later, I am now permanent VBS director and also co-chair of Children’s Christian Ed (Sunday School). Like the rest of you, I am in the thick of planning Avalanche Ranch. I am rounding up volunteers and having great response. I have a bunch of people signed up that did not help last year. They heard how much fun we had last year and said they didn’t want to miss out! We have a wonderful interim pastor that is helping us through the process and our elders are close to bringing together a pastor nominating committee from the congregation. Our interim pastor is very supportive of VBS and Christian Ed for the children.

But, like Teri said, I have real concerns about the new pastor that will be eventually be called to serve our congregation. I hope he (or she) will be enthusiastic and supportive of VBS – especially the wonderful programs offered by Group. We could use a few prayers on this subject, too, for our church!

Thanks!
