I'm working on ordering VBS supplies and noticed that the first day craft to hold the bible buddies does not have a place for the name tags (like Fiesta and Avalanche Ranch).  Do the kids just wear the name tags on a string around their neck or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Joanne

The buddy bags from Lava Lava were such a big hit that we have continued that tradition.  We use a vendor who makes convention bags - this year's are going to be neon green with the logo in white.  The kids love them and keep their buddies and their trading cards in them.  I've heard they also use them all summer to keep their spending money and small items for the beach and the pool.

We do the same and purchase them from pcnametags.com. They have a good selection of different nametag pouches. We do not let the kids take them home-we reuse them again-cannot afford to buy new ones every year with out budget!

we are looking at using "decorate your own lanyards" from Oriental Trading. They have a break-away clasp - which makes me feel better than yarn that could end up choking...

Our local $1.00 Tree has 12 dust masks in a package and I was thinking of putting the kids names and crew name/number on them and letting them wear them around their necks for name tags.

After looking for WEEKS for affordable personalized (POWER LAB  RIVERTREE CHURCH) lanyards, with breakaway clasp for a safety, I found the OTC ones.  My question:  Will they take dye - as in, we may tie dye them , or dye them by crews, etc.

Last year, with AR, we used bandanas and ordered pin on buttons with the buddies on them.  The kids simply pinned on a new button each day. ( a big hit, of course). Their name tages were separate.

This year my idea with the lanyards is to have their name tag look like a security clearance badge. It will be in a vertical plastic holder that is attached to the lanyard.  Each day, the kids will receive a buddy trading card to put in this badge holder. Last year,  the bandanas (cut in half and sewn to prevent raveling) with the button for eah child each day cost 1.30 per child - less than half of the buddies.  I am trying to find a customized lanyard and badge holder for about the same price.

My concern with the design your own, is that kids will "mess them up" and want a new one, or be disappointed in the one they have all week.  (A comment made in another post re:  can kids just take a blank slate so to speak and create something with no printed design.

Any comments...Suggestions?

Thanks,

Gwen

I like the idea of a security clearance badge. You could have a button at the entrance of Power Lab where the kids have to hold up their badge for scanning. I looked at the lanyards from OTC tje pmes upi can design. I had the same concerns. I ordered the badge/ buddy holder from Group. waiting for my order to arrive to see how they are.

I got in the past but can not find this year is the lanyards that say on them I Love VBS. Any one see those or know where to get them. I want to use for my volunteers.

God Bless

We also have had great success with the kids wanting to "make and keep " their name tag /buddy bags.  I looked in Oriental Trading, and found 57/2373 Fabulous foam lacing coin purse.  They are in bright colors, when laced together they can be used to store the trading cards or buddy  They can be used later as a place to keep their money or things.  This is a great first day project! since We are not using the Buddy's we don't have to make the test tube craft the first day. I will have to add a nylon lace for around their necks.  I found 20 ft of white nylon braided cord lace ( easy on the little necks) at Walmart for $1.99..Joanne has some too, anyway these will be our first day craft, They will have to be started for the littler ones and they are pre punched and come with lacing  and a velcro closure.  Also we are using the Oriental self stick science ( guildcraft has great ones too)name tags which are 2 1/2 by 3 1/2, and will stick them on the opposite side of the  "purse"/"Bag" and that will  be their name tags.  The buddies are out of our price range and the first day craft is going to be short, so I would use it maybe day 4.. and they can snap them on their name tag cords, we do trading cards, as we have access to a laminator we print them on colored paper and laminate them.. With the name tags we buy the stick on ones and make two for each kid and pin them on their shirts( we have a pre school hence the use of a laminater), when they get to crafts they make their bags and we unhook one and stick it on the bag or slide it in if it has a pocket.  This system works well for us, we let them take the bags home each night ( as some come only one or two days) and keep the 2nd with us and use for the next day if they forget their badges and it gives us a back up on the kids when they take their bags off for play! Oriental also has some bright badge holders $4.95/12 uf-24/992 ( only 30" cord though) we are using those for adults and helpers as they look like lab badges.  Hope this helps...Oh the coin holder bags have a velcro closure that holds the flap down ...they are really neat!    Bonnie

I just got the science name tags from Guildcraft and am putting them on heavy cardstock, cutting them out, and attatching them to yarn or something as a necklace.  Cheap and easy....ecspecially if you have some people that are willing to sit and cut.
