I am looking to borrow/buy any mortar and pestle sets from someone who has previously done a spice shop and is willing to part with theirs.  I remember some talk about them having been in the $1 section at Target a couple of years ago, but I haven't been able to find any deals on them.

Thanks!
Terryn

I bought a few at IKEA last fall.  There were relatively inexpensive (as I recall??) as is everything at IKEA.  Maybe you have one near you???

I got mine at the local health food store-about $4.00 each. You might check there.

I found plastic salsa bowls that look like stone at Walmart (similar to this picture). I think they were around a dollar each. I had someone cut 3/4 inch dowel into about 5 inch lengths and round one end for grinding. They worked great.

We used the bottoms of terra cotta pots (the part that catches the water) and we got them very inexpensive at Michaels.  Then we bought large dowels and cut them into pieces and the kids (and adults!) used the dowel on the pot bottom to crush the spices.  It worked great!
