| | This is going to be at least my 4th time directing vbs. Each year it has been during the day, because that is how I liked to do it. A couple of years ago, when someone else directed it, they had it at night. Some people liked it, some did not. Last year I directed GBS and had it during the day. I was met with quite a few people upset because they could not help because of work. So, I told them this year I would have it during the evening, so everyone would get a chance to help. Where are they? I am having to pull teeth to get volunteers to help with this year's vbs! No one has signed up. I have had to call or ask in person to help. Aahhh! I am getting worried and upset, too. I am blessed with the volunteers that I have, but not one of those complainers has signed up to volunteer this year. Huh! I just need a few prayers that my volunteers will come in herds very soon. My vbs is in June. It doesn't seem that far away. Anyone else have trouble finding volunteers? worried, tbpw |

| | I had that problem earlier this year and its been a complaint in our church UNTIL we showed the recruitment dvd during the services and made a big deal out of it by setting and decorating a booth with dry ice, bubbles. A plea from the Pastor to help is always a good thing. I was so worried and discouraged before this that I was telling God Im okay if VBS will not push through bec we don't have people or even have my station leaders only and a few crew leaders. Stressing about it didn't do me any good but just tensed shoulders ! Anyway, I keep on reminding myself its God's VBS and not mine. This is just an event. God can still reach those people anyway He can. I finally let go of my grip and said "this is your show God, I am just your instrument. Do whatever you want bec there is nothing impossible with you." Lo and behold, it made me feel so much better for His burden is light. He will take care of it. I just realized that I worry bec the result Im expecting is not accdg to the time line I set. If God has another time line for VBS, then let it be. It was liberating to surrender all the STRESS!!! I pray for faith to rise up in you and may you be strengthened knowing that the God of universe who owns everything and who doesn't even need our help is behind this event! God bless! Nice

| | I feel your pain! I was in the same boat you were when we did our Bethlehem Village in December. I'm working very closely with our Religious Ed. Director since she really knows how to get the volunteers coming. Does your church have a Youth Group? We target them for volunteers all the time. God Bless, Matt

| | our vbs is the end of June and i am just starting to recruit this coming weekend...i will need approx. 70 volunteers...i have learned over the past few years that people really don't like to commit any earlier than about 2 months ahead of time. now, i have had most of my station leaders for about a month now, so those people i do get before i start with crew leaders and everyone else. i just really commit it all to the Lord...He knows my heart, my vision, what needs to get done, who needs to be there, who is going to help. He knows who is going to attending vbs kidwise, He knows the volunteers hearts...this is part of His plan not mine. Prayer is Powerful in the name of Jesus! I really encourage you to turn to God (not that you haven't already) and let Him take care of it. Try asking people in person, that helps also. It will all work out for you, God's in control and it is for His kingdom and glory have fun!

| I agree with the frustration. Why can't everyone in the church be just as excited as we are about VBS? When it actually happens, it seems like the whole church is gung-ho, but several months ahead of time, I feel like I am spinning my wheels trying to drum up enthusiasm. We ended up changing our dates because 2 or 3 of the families who are most involved in leading out have another commitment the week we had originally planned. Now we are scheduled for the last week of July, and I keep hearing from other families in the church that their child wants to go to camp that week, or they might have family in town or they might end up going camping that week, or..... I just think we should all plan our whole summer around VBS! But not really. This is God's program, and God's church, and God's kids who will be attending. Since we started doing the Holyland VBS's, our attendance has gone up each year, and I really don't want to get too big. Maybe it is just as well if not everyone can come. The worst stress for me right now is that our pastor is moving away, & he has been our Gathering leader for the past 2 years & we were counting on him again. But God has that under control, too. Everything will happen in His time and under His control.

| | Jesus already knew of this problem and encouraged the disciple with the fact that He is LORD of the harvest. He desires to share the love of His Father to those that need Him more then any of us. Would God deny His Son of such a request? Christ desires to co-operate with us as we join hands with Him in telling the world of GOD"s great love and hope for us. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field., " Luke 10:2 Take Him at His Word.... |

| | Thank you all for your prayers and words of comfort! My volunteers have come into place and now I even have a few extras. My VBS starts next Sunday night, and for the past couple of days, I have been stressing over our number of children attending. In the past, I have done vbs with 90+. This year, I will be lucky to have 20. Our church will be moving soon, and our congregation has lost members because our congregation is split on the move. Our Sunday school only has about 15 children in it now, and that includes middle school and high school. So, we don't have many kids to begin with. Reading your posts again, is just the words of encouragement I need to remember about the size of my vbs. I need to remember that this is God's VBS, and he will bring those he wants and those whom he knows needs to be there. Whomever shows, will be thrilled about Jesus when it is over, and the children will know Him better, and be better for it! It doesn't matter if there are 10 children or 300! This week, I will pray for those children who will be attending, and be joyful that they will get to experience Jerusalem Marketplace! God's Blessings, tbpw |

| | This is our 2nd year doing the HolyLand theme and we love it !! We do ours in the evening and make it totally intergenerational. We are not a large church, but last year we had 63 participants ranging in age from 1 yr to 90 yrs old. It was fabulous. I'm a pretty tough recruiter - I rarely take "no" for an answer. I look over the spots we need to fill and then try to match them to people in the congregation. Then I approach them individually to ask them. I explain exactly what they will be doing and make up packets for them with material from the group materials and extra things I research (ie. more information on that job or person during Bible times). Each one is given their costume at our general meeting 2 or 3 weeks before. This year I went on a website and found the Hebrew equivalent for their name to put on their nametag. We're going to do it for the participants, too. I also make sure I put the marketplace stalls "2 deep". That way they have someone to lean on and talk to and they don't feel it's such a huge job. But I even try to put unlikely people together - not just friends. The great thing was that many of them ended up with new friends. Sorry this is so long, but I get really pumped when I talk about our HolyLand VBS. Good luck & GOD BLESS. susan |
