We keep ours super simple.  Each rotational group leads a song on the altar.  In between songs we summarize different points of the camp (Bible Points 1 & 2, then 3 & 4, ask childen to share favorite part of VBS, invite volunteers up for recognition).  My friend's church also takes a free will offering to offset expenses before the last song.  We close with the theme song and dismiss to an ice cream social.  During the ice cream social, we run all the Spotlight Dramas continuously using a projector... it had to be indoors last year because of rain, but having it on a large sheet or inflatable screen outside is our goal.

Ours is big.......we don't play the games during vbs instead we do a memory verse lesson in place of the games.  We extend VBS one more night to Sat.  we roast hot dogs, play the games plus any more I can come up with, each group sings the songs, we give out the certificates. I plan to do the diet coke and mentos experiment that day also.  I have did surveys before and our kids love doing it this way. Most of the parents show up (even our Van kids parent's show up)  Our elderly love to come and watch the entire church playing the games.  We have a blast. To end the evening we build a bomb fire and the Pastor and I talk to the kids about the entire week.....The kids really open up to us. Our Sat. game night is as wonder as the entire week of VBS.

God is great

We do our last day VBS material.  Then after closing we do awards and recognition.  Each kid gets a certificate and a bag of goodies.  We then hand out awards and cert. to each volunteer.  Then we have our pastor say a word or two.

Then this year, we are sliming the crew leader whose crew brought the most offering.

Last year we saved up all the Spotlight Drama presentations (rather than showing them each day) and made that our closing program. We'll do that again this year, too.

The Bible does say that God's power is perfected in weakness... I guess that means we should be seeing God's power just explode all over this place. - Brian Brophy

Our closing is actually held Thursday evening (we run a morning program Monday through Friday-we do it Thursday night because we have so many from other churches or leaving on vacation afterwards that we don't have many for a Sunday morning). We review the daily bible points and intersperse songs in between. We usually save the closing for the 4th until the evening and do that with the parents present and we present our O2K offering at this service as well (although this year we will not because of the nature of the craft time Friday). The morning skit is also pushed back to this time. We recognize all volunteers and afterwards, do what all good Baptists do--EAT!!!!!!

Our VBS kids sing 2-3 songs with actions on the Sunday following VBS week, during our regular services.  That way, everyone (not just parents of kids involved) get to see what the kids learned...hopefully it makes a couple people think "hmmm, maybe I should be a part of that next year..."

We have a prayer from each of the sides of our church ( we are a base chapel and we combine both protestant and catholic kids together) and then we do songs with each different group of kids ( usually 3 crews per song set and the whole preschool does one as well) After this we have a slide show of the whole week of activities sprinkled with pics of each crew standing with their sign and their leaders.. we show each activity and the leaders of the activity ( with the music from VBS in the background) and then.. since usually the new Group idea has been released.. we put something like "Join us for Power Lab VBS next year" which was last years end slide.

That way the parents know what is going to be going on next year.. they get to see what happened this year and feel included since most of them are drop offs from the community. We also give the group leaders a copy of this slideshow.. or just the pics.. depending on what time we have.. but we have a great lady that does all of this for us.. taking pics.. mon-thurs.. taking almost all day friday to put together the slide show.. and then being there to run it that evening at the closing ceremony!

We love this closing though it is very crowded.. we take that as a good thing.. and usually hot in the chapel building. but so worth it for the kids who cheer when their crew is shown.. and they cheer for eachother too.

Hugs

Katie
