| The balls are used in the finale for Day 3. They are used in the sink or float part.
Hope this helps

| | Yes, one ball is suppose to float and the other is suppose to sink. The bowling ball weighing less than 8 lbs will float because it is less dense than the water and the heavier bowling ball(s) will sink because they are more dense than the water. Blessings

| | thank you, lisa...i did do some other research to make sure i was on track. do you think it is more effective to demonstrate the lighter or heavier ball first? i'm thinking the heavier one (first) to pretty much confirm the children's prediction that it will indeed sink, then kind of astonish them with the lighter one floating?????? i actually aquired two heavys and one light, so i may really play up the sinking factor, then dazzle them with the floating ball. earlier there was a post regarding this stating that the children were so amazed and i just want to get the most out of it. thanks again |

| We are definately doing this, but our leader will be handling the bowling balls instead of the kids. I called a local bowling alley and asked if they had any old used bowling balls that we could borrow and they actually let us use two of their new glow in the dark neon bowling balls (they look really cool). I told him they would be getting wet and they were fine with that. We will be returning them after VBS is over.

| | Congrats Mitzi S. on your great fortune, that is awesome! HOLLICENT, I agree you should use the heavier ones first for the awe effect. Having two heavy ones, will really make them not expect the third to float. Blessings,

| AAHHHH! I've spent 2 months working to get bowling balls. Now our "day 3" is tomorrow and I only have a heavy bowling ball. I'm so sad . I'm just on my way to google other sink and float ideas that I might be able to round up at home. My other frustration - we aren't soda drinkers - my husband went to 15 stores in our town looking for vending machines that sell cans not bottles! |

| | I so hope you are able to find a bowling ball for the lighter one -- the one we used was 8.2 pounds and it did float -- Try a bowling alley that does kids leagues or teaches a class ... The kids were really amazed that a bowling ball actually did float!! We just finished Day 3 tonight and it was one of my favorite closings --- I had a hard time finding an aquarium -- finally got one at WalMart for about $10 -- It doesn't have to be really big -- the bowling ball was only about 8" --and the glass aquarium gave everyone a good look at what was happening. The kids were glued to the event and excited to see what would float and what would sink. I did have the kid assistant pick up the bowling ball and hand it to me and then the 2 of us gently placed it into the aquarium -- it was amazing to see if float! The coke/diet coke cans also worked great! -- we had less luck with the lime and lemon and the 2 oranges -- but it was still fun. |

| AHA! Found the bowling balls! My friends who work at the local community caring center, had someone drop off 4 bowling balls. They weighed them and brought me the right sized ones. Also they have found me several lava, fiber optic and other eye catching lamps. I found 2 lab coats there also. Of course, we will be returning these to the caring center after VBS. But isn't it great all the cooperation people share. Carol |
