I'm disappointed that my church's education committee, as a whole, has decided to "take the summer off" from Sunday school.  This is actually something they've always done in the past.  I am new to the church.  I love my preteen "Sunday school class", called "The SEEKERs' Club".  I'd like to think of it as a preteen youth group.  I want to continue to meet during the summer and I'm wondering what day and time would prove to be most successful.  Sunday afternoon or evening?  Saturday morning?  A weekday evening?   I have the support of our wonderful pastor to continue to meet during the summer.  I couldn't imagine not meeting.  We are using GRAPPLE and having a meeting at a time other than during our Sunday school time, would allow me to have more time.  I'd love to have a total of an hour and a half!  The forty-five minutes that we currently have just isn't enough time.  Thank you for your insights and advice!

Blessings,

Mary

We are having our Summer meetings on Sundays from 4-6pm. That gives us extra time for games, etc. We have children in year round school so late afternoon is best for us.

We are still doing the Sunday morning thing.  This fall we are just beginning to use Grapple.  One of the teachers is on fire about it and we just got the curriculum this week.  It will be interesting to see how it works as we just started this ministry in April.  So far so good.

As a church instead of doing Wed. night activities we have a massive outreach planned.  We have targeted an apt. complex and will be doing olympic style games with the children and adults.  Pier 56 (our 5 & 6 ministry) will be participating as well.  I'm actually happy that we are taking this route rather than the low key summer.

We continue to have Sunday school through the summer, but call it summer Sunday school and have stations like VBS does and move the kids from station to station; we do this during the Sunday school time between the two services (we encourage families to worship together and therefore do not have Sunday school during the worship time). We also have a children's program (birth to 5th grade) on Wednesday mornings during our adult Bible study time and then 6th - 12th grade on Wednesday nights 6:30 to 8:30. Our wednesday programs tend to be more lightly attended in the summer than in the school year, and our summer Sunday school cl birth to 5th grade has approx 350 kids and high school/middle school has approx 150 in the summer.HTH
