| | All the 6th graders had to make atoms this year in science class. They could use about anything they wanted. My sons had a styrofoam ball for the center, rings broken off a wire wreath frame, and pony beads for the protons, electrons, and neutrons. The teacher left them hanging from her ceiling all year as decoration. I told her if any kids didn't want to take them home, I'd take them. She asked the kids and a lot of them donated them. They thought it was neat they would be used for church. Now I have about 15 of them. Not sure where or how I'll hang them, but I'll find something! My daughter's science teacher is retiring so I need to ask her if she has anything she doesn't want.

| | Re Atoms/molecules - I used the small plastic air filled balls from Walmart. The ones they used for the hula hoop atoms - but instead I punched holes with an awl and then inserted wooden skewers that are about 10" long. You can make all kinds of shapes, even ones to look like double helix and they are lightweight. I am planning on using fishing line to hang them from the ceiling. |
