My VBS Directors and I are in need of prayers. We have under 2 months to go and are still short a ton of volunteers. Last year at this time we had a lot more signed. Still do not even have all of my Station Leaders.
Last year we had 100 volunteers-sounds like enough but it was not. We had some crews that had 12 kids in them! By the looks on their faces at the end of the week, I knew some of my crew leaders would never come back. We try to have 2 crew leaders for each crew-usually put a youth with an adult but we had to have a few crews with two youth and that was a disaster. I have been approaching a lot of new people this year but get mostly 'not sure if I can do it'.
I know I need to give this to God-I am trying to.
Please pray for my team.
Lori

Praying for you Lori and your volunters. Could you tell a new person that they will be with a vbs pro this year to learn the ropes. Then you might be able to spread your volunteers who have worked it for years to other areas. Do one of the skits, when new people see how much fun its going to be they will volunteer.

God Bless

Lori,

I will definitely keep you in my prayers!  Somehow it seems no matter how we stress and worry it all works out in the end.  Don't let satan get the upper hand!

100 + Volunteers Wow! I reckon that lots of kids is a very good thing, but we cannot accommodate that many and stay insane. That is why we HAVE to set a limit on the number of participants. Not sure if you have considered that. Nonetheless, I believe with all my heart that God is able to do the impossible for you. So for that reason I am adding your church to my VBS National Day of Prayer list (also on my website/Dr. B's Lab ) and will trust God for a miracle. May Jehovah-Jireh supply all that you need so that your VBS is successful and a powerful testimony of his great love for the little ones. Be encouraged, no matter what God's name will be glorified if you set and keep you heart and mind in the most important detail; that children and adults alike experience the miraculous POWER or Jesus!

Thank you for your prayers. I know it will be ok and God will provide the help we need to pull this off.
My Pastor will not let me cap the number of kids, I wish that was an option.
In addition to VBS, our church staff is going through some major stress-we are under staffed and over worked (going on year 2) and our Pastor keeps piling more things on us and not even hiring who needs to be hired-when they do get hired, they last last than 6 months! He does not even seem to care that we are barely holding on and people keep quitting because they are not treated well at all. I was a volunteer for years doing this and it was fun, since I have been an employee, it is no longer fun. I have witnessed a Pastor do things that should never be done by anyone. Yelling at staff members, lying, manipulating situations and then gets up and preaches on Sunday. I can't seem to listen to his sermons anymore without feeling sick to my stomach. I thank God that we have this interim Associate Pastor who is great, and I can get spiritually fed from him-thing is he is not allowed to preach too often. It is very sad.

Sorry I needed to vent and feel blessed that I can get it off my chest.
Again, thanks for the prayers, I can feel them.
Lori

Where's your church board, elders, deacons - whomever handles problems? Seems the pastor is out of control here. Plus the liability of too many kids and not enough adults...

Our church board is hand picked by our Pastor which means there is nowhere for the staff to go with these issues. We do haves some new board members now that are showing some gumption. And the interim Pastor that I mentioned has been a blessing. He has been at our church for over over a year and got little pieces of it here and there but now, over these past few weeks, he has seen the lies and temper with his own eyes. I am praying he will be able to help us. We had one meeting in particular, two weeks ago, with my volunteer leader team and our interim witnessed them being disrespected and lied to by their Pastor. My leaders were in shock because they had never seen him like this before-2 were in tears afterwards and ready to quit. Our interim called me at home the next day and we talked a long time-it is very sad and he is in a weird spot but I believe that God sent him to us to help our community. I did talk to my Pastor about it the next day and he called them and apologized but the damage has been done. A lot of people are sticking it out because we are here for the right reason-to share the love of Christ to the kids in our community -my faith is the only thing that is keeping me going through all of this.
As far as the liability goes-I pray constantly about that-it is only by the grace of God that nothing has happened.
