| We are planning to add coins to our marketplace experience this year. I've heard a lot of good ideas on this forum of different ways people use marketplace coins. What we want to do is have the apprentices "paid" for their labor in the shops. Then, they can buy treats for their tribe from the Farmer's Market to supplement the bread. Of course, there will be a tax collector and a beggar as well. What we're really not certain about is how to obtain the coins. I remember doing a Jerusalem Marketplace 29 AD when I was a kid. They had us make coins out of aluminum foil, but I increased my wealth by making my own at home. I don't want to encourage money laundering, though, so I'd be happy to hear any inexpensive ideas people have for Jerusalem Marketplace money.

| We have someone who offered to make wood coins by cutting 1/8 - 1/4 inch slices from 3/4 & 1/2 " dowels. It is apparently relatively easy with the right tools. I found a rubber stamp that we are stamping the coins with that makes them look like coins. It's actually a stamp of a Chinese coin so not particularly authentic but unless you really look, you can't tell. We're still not exactly sure how we will use the coins other than to buy snacks at farmers market. I'll look forward to ideas others have. Linda (Olean, NY)

| I have found coins online at Oriental Trading Company. I also found them at party supply stores. We used them for all kinds of reasons. We used them for attendance, if they showed good sportsmanship in games, good behavior, etc. I even gave each shopkeeper coins, and when they finished their shop, they would get a coin. Also, we gave them coins as incentives to try new foods, etc. in the farmer's mkt, and plan to do the same with the candy shop this year. Goodluck! tbpw

| We just use the gold plastic religious coins from OTC. Each child gets a zipper purse with the long string from OTC which if they choose to tye dye it in a shop they can keep. Otherwise we recycle them year after year. Or there are the small muslin goody bags from OTC or Guildcraft. We connect them around their neck or to their nametag. We call them shekels. We have shekel questions during the opening and closing gathering. Also the rabbi asks alot of questions about what they learned before and for helping in the synagogue. Usually I ask each shop keeper and tribe leader to come up with a question from their shop or from their tribe related to what the kids learned during the day at closing gathering. We also give out 10 shekels for memorizing the whole shema from the Bible, both verses, and sometimes for the daily memory verses. The kids really remember alot of what they have learned. We usually do special questions for the 3-5 year olds that are easier. I also print up paper money worth 10 shekels. If you e-mail me I will be happy to send a pdf of the paper money for this year. The kids love to make change when they earn 10 shekels and then they have less coins to carry around. We then have a store that is open for 15-20 minutes at the end of each night where kids can by all types of somewhat realistic type prizes. Check in OTC under dreidl. I got some cool erasers in the shape of a dreidl. One year I got foam bows and arrows from RINovelty. They were a hit. The rubber rock bouncy balls are great plus, cross pens and stuff. I get tons of the coin bubble gums. They sell out instantly. I usually get some tye dye backpacks and the little plush ponies -- they look a little like Jethro-- from OTC for the big ticket items. The store is such a hit! Cocos Mom
