Any time you start something new, it means change. Change in that you're doing a program, change from a previous program. Change of time, place, leaders. We've put together a wealth of information in the Get Organized! Director CD (check it out at http://store.grouppublishing.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?section=11602&item=48944) to help get you going.

If you want to use parts of this CD for your training session, here are some helpful suggestions from Amy Weaver, editor for Group's Living Inside Out:

If you're planning on doing the entire training event from the CD, we suggest setting aside 1 hour, the approximate time it will take to run a large-group/small-group lesson. The best way to teach your volunteers is to allow them to see the entire format in action before kids are involved. That way, they can feel comfortable asking questions, and sharing ideas on how to best adapt this curriculum to meet your space and time constraints.

However, if you only have 20-30 minutes to set aside for this portion of the training, I would recommend walking your volunteers through a shortened version of a lesson: Start with a Countdown off the DVD, do a Jump Start, sing a song from the CD, and share a video drama. Then do one large-group activity and one small-group activity to allow volunteers an opportunity to see the difference. Also, make sure to set aside time for volunteers to ask questions and share concerns, especially if this is your first time using the large-group/small-group format in your church.

We'd love to hear from you how it's going, and answer any questions you have. You can email Amy at aweaver@group.com, Angela DeWispelaere, our marketing manager, at adewispelaere@group.com, or me at dbernard@group.com.

God bless you and your ministry!
