We have high ceilings but we have several flag poles that are in the sanctuary. We swap out the worship flags and hang out atoms from that. Just an idea.

We have the traditional sanctuary w/high ceilings as well and I've been known to hang Bible Buddies with the verse on the back from chandeliers or Mike's "flying" flamingos (Lava Lava Island) from balcony rails and always display backgrounds in the choir loft setting on the choir chairs on the back riser so that they are boosted above the modesty rail and reach maximum height.  Protect your piano and organ with tablecloths, but set things on them to raise them up, too.  Big rooms need big props to make an impact.  Little things get lost and just look fussy, IMHO.  Every year one of my first thoughts is, "how do I cover up all this raised panel, white wood railings."  It makes a huge difference in the feel of the room with that one change.

Blessings,

Laura in NC

For anyone with high ceilings that you don't know what to do with: Check with your pastor, maintenance man, or the person that seems to know where everything is (every church has one. I am ours. lol). See if there is a catwalk above the sanctuary (above the ceiling). We have one and it makes it so easy to hang things from recessed light holes and the slot from an old drop-down projection screen.
