| Last year when we did Galilee By-the-Sea, we were challenged with not having an oven in our church and not having enough time to bake the bread. A friend of mine provided this recipe, which does not need to rise. Our Bakery shopkeeper prepared the dough before VBS (it was held in the evening) and then had the kids roll it out on the baking stones. The Bakers then "fried" up the bread in an electric skillet during the Marketplace time. She varied the flavors by adding different herbs each day. We wrapped them up in colorful fabric napkins after they were done cooking. They were still hot when it got to the tribe time. The Tribe Leader would break off pieces to share with the tribe. Everyone loved the bread. Hope this helps those who also don't have access to an oven! Merrilee Yogurt Bread Recipe 3 1/4 cups flour 1 tsp. balking powder 1 tsp. salt 2 + cups of plain yogurt olive oil Sift dry ingredients together, slowly add enough yogurt to gather flour in a ball. Knead for 10 minutes. Cover in a bowl and let sit for 1 1/2 -2 hours. ( I don't think we always did this part.) Divide dough and roll into 2 inch balls. Flatten (this is the part the kids did) Cook in a skillet for 1-2 minutes on each side. Some of the spices you could add are: Caraway seeds, Basil, rosemary poppy seeds, sesame seeds, chopped olives, sundried tomatoes, fennel seeds, cumin seeds,garlic...
