Here are some thoughts and ideas for a pair of volunteers just starting to teach FaithWeaver for Grades 5 & 6.- First of all, thanks to you and your wife for being willing to lead this great group of kids. My oldest daughter is now in 6th grade, so I am especially appreciative of those that minister to this group. And please feel free to come here with questions, ideas, and prayer requests!
- Know that learners of this age will take alot of their cues from you. If you're excited to be there, so will they. We try to provide more than what you need for your time, so don't worry about getting through everything. That's not the point! (But should you want more ideas to consider, we also provide a free additional idea online under "Teacher Tips" at www.FaithWeaver.com.)
- I'd suggest that you look through your next week's lesson early in the week, as it will help you be 'tuned in' to examples in your life and from the world around you to enrich your time together. Pick something from Getting Started, from Bible Story Exploration, and from Weaving Faith Into Life (the life application part). Then add as needed if you have more time.
And from another church:- I'd like to add to the positive note Deb has posted above in response to your request. I taught the 5th grade class at our church last year using the FaithWeaver curriculum and enjoyed doing so. The 6th graders will go about it a little differently than they would have a year ago but they'll be ready for whatever you have each week.
- Two things: First off, as Deb mentioned above, go into class each Sunday ready to enjoy yourself with the kids you will be teaching. Secondly, don't be afraid to customize the lessons as needed. Pick and choose items from each lesson's guidelines to use as you see fit.
- I'll be praying for you and your wife. Have fun!
If you have any other questions, please let us know. I'll be praying for the start of the year for the two of you and your learners!
God bless you and your ministry!
