| | Our VBS is planned for July 21 - 25....we started planning in March, and the ball was dropped...here we are with not much done but some ordering of materials. Our church had its first VBS last year, and it was quite unorganized. It seems to be going the same if not worse this year. My pastor thinks we should consider doing one night of VBS a week, maybe when school starts. Has anyone ever tried this? I would really appreciate your comments! Lisa |

| | Hey.... okay... deep breath and a good prayer right about now. First and foremost, leave this one in the good Lord's hands! As far as any advice I can provide. I can tell you that last year our VERY large congregation was going to cancel VBS because NO ONE would step up to help direct it... that's when I said it must go on.... this was in EARLY June. Knowing the VBS was in August... so dig right into the materials... it's ALL laid out for you. Get some decoration ideas (even if it is MINOR things, balloons, streamers, clip art of beakers etc). Ask area churches if they are doing VBS for decorations or ideas... Purchase your books and get some helpers together... Advertise and accept registrations. Believe me, or actually Believe in God on this one, if HE wants it done... it will HAPPEN. It will be stressful, but the most amazing part is when you have children who don't know ANYTHING about faith.... come to you on the closing day and tell you they convinced their parents to be there on Sunday... then a month later, mom and dad are both involved in the church and are so very happy in life. Really, it's all based on what you know you can do with God on your side.
As far as a weekly thing... I personally think it would be difficult to do, that's a LOT of work. Do it in 4 days or 3 days to start off again, but keep it consistent. People in your congregation and community are looking for something that is truly stable and consistent. Just keep praying... I'm praying for you!!! God's Blessings

| First, take a deep, deep calming breath. I was there about a month ago. I did not have enough workers, I only had 5 kids pre-registered and my registration person flaked.
I was trying to figure out how to convince my pastor to cancel. However, my friend gave me some very sound advice. She told me to "plow the field and wait for God to send the rain". You still have a month. You may not be able to do everything Group suggests, but that is okay too.
I still do not have as many workers as I would like, so I had to re-organize the way the crew teams work and had to make our decoration coordinator do registration. But we are a small church with small VBS so we can stay flexible.
What specific problems are you having? Maybe we can put our head together and help.
I have heard of places spreading VBS out over a month or more. However, I would think that that would be hard for workers to commit to and difficult to have the church upside down for more than a month.
You still have a month, VBS can be saved.
Lord Jesus, I pray for my sister. Please get in front of her and lead the way. Shine light on solutions for her problems. I pray blessings upon her workers and I pray that you would soften the hearts of the children that will attend. In your name. Amen
Because of Him

| | At a former church we did VBS one night a week for 6 weeks (Friday nights). It was one of the best things we did. Everyone got involved. |

| I hope by now you have resolved your problem. I would suggest that one night a week after supper would be a good time for a Bible School program in a Church where it is difficult to get enough help. Everyone likes to eat. Why not let them bring a covered dish or order pizza and soda. While some do the clean up you could go over to your Power Lab section and have your Bible School lessons with a craft to go home with. God Bless your efforts. From Church Lady

| | Thanks to ALL of you for your encouraging words, heartfelt prayers, and seasoned advice!!! I have to say the main problem we have is lack of good leadership...our church is quite small, about 75 attending each Sunday. There are some who would like to help, but there is no organization and everyone ends up confused and frustrated. We also have a very small number of children in our church, I think last year we had maybe 25 attend VBS. (we did some advertising, but it brought in no new kids) Some people feel it is almost a waste of time for such a small group. Needless to say there is some dissention in my church. I will keep praying about what God wants us to do with VBS, and I thank you again for your help. Sincerely, Lisa |

| You will be great and so will VBS Just sit back take a deep breath say that special prayer. Just put yourself into it an then you can express how much fun it will be. get your youth helping little steps at a time There are only 2 of us decorateng and i want it to be perfect but you know that all that counts is getting the youth froom church there and the neighborhoods. So the first step is to take some time to reflect with God and pray that he will show the path and he will. Now ask for volunteers to assist you and you can deligate this out . there are free coloring pictues recurte the sunday school cl to color them I did and I have sabout 40 colored pictures. the Children love this. It wll all come together. God never gives us more that we can handle. You are in my prayers Let me know how it turns out

| | I am also the director of VBS for a small church. We have a lot of children that come to VBS that you never see in church any other time of the year. I have trouble at first getting volunteers and when I schedule meetings no one shows up. We have our VBS this week and we seem to have more than enough people there to help. I personally take on more than I should to try to make it happen. I am the director, Craft leader, Cinema Science and Faith Fusion Finale leader. My games person (my husband) won't be here two nights so I'll be doing that too. The program is flexible enough to allow you to do mutliple parts if necessary. One month should be long enough to be able to get it together. Do your part and God will do the rest. Try personally asking people to help and tell them that you need them. Use the video that shows how easy and exciting the program is. |
