Stop and ask for Gods help.  You can do it with him.  Start with finding 1-2 more people to co direct with you.  Then brain storm on station leaders, crew leaders etc.  Group lays it all out very easy.  Read it all over.  Then when you have people willing to take stations for you hand them the packet.  Let them all know to call if they need help and check in with them periodically.  It makes it especially easy if you can send out blanket emails.  You can offer to pick up supplies if needed but you need a list by a certain date etc.  I hope this was helpful.  I have been involved with VBS directing, teaching, planning etc for many years.  My husband is a pastor and we make it a family affair.  We were involved with once a week VBS a couple of times.  As long as you have consistency of when it is, ours worked out great.  We did every sunday night for 6 weeks.  The kids loved.  It can make it easier to get help from working people as well.  Change is not a bad thing and is sometimes just the thing a church needs.  Don't feel overwhelmed God will get you through and usually at the end of things the only person or people that know something went wrong is the leaders.  Not the kids.

My old church, in which I still have a lot of family is very small.  They do their VBS on Sundays instead of doing Sunday School.  It last for a few weeks, but it gives the leaders who are young and very busy with school, family, and work the time that they need to prepare for the next lesson.  It seems to work for them and they are going to do the same thing this year.  Don't be discouraged.  Kids will have fun anytime they are around people that care for them and build relationship with them.

Thanks to ALL of you for your encouraging words, heartfelt prayers, and seasoned advice!!!  I have to say the main problem we have is lack of good leadership...our church is quite small, about 75 attending each Sunday.  There are some who would like to help, but there is no organization and everyone ends up confused and frustrated.  We also have a very small number of children in our church, I think last year we had maybe 25 attend VBS. (we did some advertising, but it brought in no new kids)  Some people feel it is almost a waste of time for such a small group.  Needless to say there is some dissention in my church.

I will keep praying about what God wants us to do with VBS, and I thank you again for your help.

Sincerely,

Lisa

It's never a waste.  I usually have about 15 kids.  We too are a small church.  Just keep it simple.  You do what you are able the kids have a blast no matter what.  I started our VBS without a clue and kids come up to me all the time asking when the next one is.

To simplify we do music, story time, games, snack, craft.

Games such as musical chairs can be a blast if you use the music from the program.  Rather than having kids sit out have them squish together on the chairs and see how many chairs you can remove and everyone still squeeze in

Craft kits are available that make it easy, Oriental Trading our Guildcraftinc both cater to the VBS programs for any given year

Story time you can get away with just reading if you don't have the experience/skill/volunteers for more

We do not do the skits because we don't have the volunteers.

I've been swamped this year and am really just starting to plan our VBS and it's in 2 weeks.  You can do it!

ps.

I had very little help and no budget the first year.  The help I had were parents that decided to stay and just pitched in.  I donated everything that year so it was very cheaply done

I also wanted to say that what we do is have the kids do a little performance during the service.  They sing a few of the songs etc.  So not only are we reaching the 15 kids and showing them they matter and can make a difference we reach the congregation who adores seeing them perform and we are meeting relatives who come to see their little ones perform and those kids go out and tell all their friends what fun they had so they are reaching someone.

I'm glad to hear you found something that will work.  It sounds like fun!  I bet by the end you have twice as many people coming as they bring friends etc!

I am glad you sought God in this and that you listened. SO often we do something because it has to be done not because has put it on our heart. That is the only reason our church was having VBS before my husband and I arrived. I love VBS and put just about all of me into it. Your mid-week program using Power Lab sounds like a great idea and I can "hear" the excitement in your "voice"

I am praying that God will bless this new ministry and grow it beyond what you have even imagined

We did our VBS 9 - 11:30 am M- F.  We had to use mostly teenage leaders. I had an adult at most station rotations.  The small group leaders were 6th graders on up. Those going into 5th grade we called helpers. They loved their titles. I can't get enough parents. The teens had a great time too. We had people volunteer to bring them snacks in the kitchen since we didn't have money for them. They didn't eat the other snacks. What exactly seems to be the problem?  Please email me at mary_hosting@hotmail.com
