I read an earlier post about a hex nut hitting a child, due to children being a little rowdy with the balloon. My station leader for cinema science doubled balloons and it worked, although one of the kids did pop the inside balloon. Thankfully we had two balloons or we would've had an accident. Maybe something for the cinema science leaders to consider.

has anyone expirimented with using other things in the balloons?

Also - if you buy good grade helium balloons (like Qualatex)  they are thicker than the cheap balloons. We do lots of balloon decorating, and it pays to buy the better grade of balloons. The others tend to pop easily.

I read in a post that someone used hard candy in the balloon and it had the same effect.

My daughter did this station and she used a bouncy balls in the balloon instead of the hex nuts. It also worked just fine and no problems if the balloon broke.
