Okay, just completed day one.  I highly recommend having at least a "director" and a photographer to make this run smoothly.  The manual talks about having the hyperspeed games leaders act as the directors, but I find that they are really busy trying to organize/set up the games.

Trying to be both the director and the photographer can be a challenge.  If your just setting up your VBS scheduled, I'd recommend making sure you the spotlight drama team about 10 minutes (minimum) of time to do nothing but shoot the necessary shots.  If you can have two co-directors then the photographer can alternate between the two directors.  So one director's group is setting up the shot while the other director's group is getting the picture taken.  With that technique, it'll run smoothly under 10 minutes.

Software is extremely simple to use.  Assuming you got good framed shots, you done with the software in about 10 minutes.

I think Day 2 will go easier now that the kids got to see why we are asking to do the staged poses.

Day 2.  Things went much easier today.  With the fine work of a "director", I was able to focus on just getting the pictures.  We had everything we needed in less than 5 minutes.  We were easily able to move in and out of the groups doing hyperspeed games.  Kids were also more animated and willing participants today after seeing Day 1 spotlight drama at the end of the day yesterday.

Hats off to Group for making the software so easy to use.

Day 3.  Kids are more than willing to "ham" it up now.  Now as I walk through taking random pictures for self-developed presentation for a Sunday recap, the kids are wanting to get their picture taken for the night's spotlight drama feature.  No new advice tonight other than I suspect day 4 and 5, I'll have more "actors" than I have slides for.  Taking some of the extra pictures and using them in a general PowerPoint presentation that plays as kids arrive for the day or coming back for the day's wrap-up.

Day 4 & 5.  Day 4 was the easiest one for me to put together.  Just needed a Bible for one shot... luckily we had one of those laying around   The kids were fully on board and were definitely willing "actors".  Day 5 was a little tougher.  No props needed, but it was more of a challenge to get the younger kids.  I think we followed them around to every rotation trying to get the needed shots... yes... "herding cats comes to mind."  Had about :15 minutes to put the pictures into the show.  Again, with such easy to use software, it was fine.  Especially since I had to do it twice because for some reason it didn't save the imported pictures.  I basically got it re-done with only about 2 minutes to spare.

We wrapped up on Thursday night had our presentation for today, Sunday (Children's Sabbath).  I spent Friday and Saturday, putting together a 3 minute photo show overview.  You can view it by clicking the YouTube link below:

Spotlight Drama was really fun to do and the kids really loved it.  The really liked seeing themselves up on the screen everynight.  I would definitely recommend including this in your Power Lab VBS.

If I may ask, what video program did you use to create your video? I really enjoyed your animations with the bible buddies and points, and might be interested in doing something similar to that in my video if I can figure out the program to use.

Nice video- really enjoyed it!

Thanks for the kind comments.

I used Adobe After Effects to create the earth zoom effect and animations/titles and Premiere Pro put everything together. The animated wipe transitions, lower thirds, overlays and transitions, I purchased from a company called Digital Juice that sells royalty free animations, music, and graphics for broadcast and video production.

It took about two full days of work to put it together.  That includes color correcting and cropping the photos, building the opening effects and titles.  I do video editing/production as a hobby so it was really just for fun.  I'm sure the congregation would have been happy seeing a simple PowerPoint, but I wanted to kick it up a little.  The only work aspect to it was that I had two day deadline for it to be ready to show at the first service the Sunday following the wrap up of VBS.

Our VBS was over June 20.... It was great!!

I am blessed to have a VBS photographer that takes individual pictures of the kids that they use as a craft to take home,,, and she also takes all the photos that we show on a DVD at the closing program etc....

We had a young girl, our Pastor's daughter, take the Action Drama pictures each day... she was a blessing.... I am director, so I get to roam, help out when I'm needed, and make sure everything is running smoothly.

I learned, early on, that we need a photographer, and a person to do the Dramas.... the kids love doing them, and the adults love seeing them at the closng program.

We had a great year, and are now coming down from the high we get every year.. watching the kids find out that God is fun!!!!
