There are no "big ball" bowling alleys within reasonable driving distance--it's all candlepin bowling in our area, and I don't think those little shotput sized balls would have the same effect. Any ideas for substitutions?

We didn't have the bowling balls and this demonstration was still a big hit with the kids.  We used grapes, coke and diet coke, lemon, orange peeled and unpeeled.

They were especially amazed with the diet coke vs coke and the peeled vs unpeeled orange (unpeeled it sinks, peeled it floats) we used that to say that when we are covered by God it gives us the ability to do things we can't do alone.  The kids remembered that all week.

Even if you can't get the bowling ball I encourage you to use this experiment, the kids loved it.  We made a big deal of having the kids raise their hands for sink or float and wearing our "lab gl" before we put things in the plastic bin.  A big success.

Hope that helps!

We didn't use the bowling balls either, but the other experiments were fine!  The whole thing was a big hit!

I think you meant to say that unpeeled it floats, but peeled it will sink.  I like the way you tied it in with being covered by God.

I remember doing the orange before and saying that the unpeeled one had his "LIFE jacket on!"
