| | Not new to church work, but am settling in to children's ministry. One of the things I've done is to simplify our calendar. In the past, we've had lots of 'little' events: grade-level parties, trips to the zoo, etc. That led to our calendar being loaded with a LOT of little things that were done in an ok way, but not an excellent way. So, I asked my core team of volunteers (about 4 people) what events they thought were part of our identity. We identified 5: Easter, VBS, Fall Fest, Breakfast with Santa, and Christmas Eve. We have focused our energy and budget on doing what we do best. What we do best is provide opportunities for children to experience the Gospel (the love of God through Christ via the power of the Holy Spirit). This is in addition to our weekly programming on Saturday/Sunday. This seasonal approach also allows me to give volunteers time to refresh between events, give my budget a break, and allows other ministries (music, youth, recreation) to participate.
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. |
