Ok Girlfriends, I got the yellow fever shot yesterday, I had all the other shots because of where Ihad been  in Sri Lanka and Tenali India the past 2 years. One thing about the dosage of hept. B you don't have to get that one again. Reason I went ahead w/yellow fever, after checking with  the International travel office medical dr @ Tarrant county health services in Ft. Worth, where they have my records for travel shots and etc.  plus I wanted to be sure everything was still good; anyway, I'm  getting "older" (thats what they think:hehe my immune system may not be what it was when I was 20 (that was just last year) and I took it as a precautionary.  I pd 65.00 for it.  If you haven't got your malaria medicine yet. (I always take that) you might want to get the one called Doxycycline 100 mgm.  You start it the day before travel and take every day till all is gone.  My daughter and 7 others came home from Africia years ago (had taken a malaria medicine) and they came down with Malaria.  CDC and foriegn mission board knew there was a rare strand of malaria where they were going to be, but they never could trace it til this group came back, one person did not come down with it out of the 9 that went, it was discovered he was taking techroyclin for the teenage zitz.  After the research with this group, they developed the Doxycline for malaria .  there's 3 kinds of malaria medicine, and thats the one I always take.  No problems .

I've never been sick on a trip or after a trip out of the country.  Drs have always referred me to the International travel service for advice . According to Drs. they know more about the different countries.

I've come to the conclusion it just depends on the person and their body.

Thats my 2 cents, which isn't worth much!  It's really up to the individual person!!!

As far as bugs, spiders, snakes, and all those other little creatures, in Texas and especially out in the country with horses, cows and hot humid weather, you never get use to them!  I'm looking forward to having smaller creatures than what we have here, that will be a relief!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

Its hard to believe in just alittle over 2wks, we will all meet in Lima (some before than)

and start a new adventure with the Lord as our guide!  WoW:

I'm curious when are you thinking about a time for the tour on the 18th?

Until next time

Blessings

Selma

Hi Suesam! RE: Yellow fever . . .I asked a Doctor if she would dismiss that particular shot...and she HIGHLY recommended having the shot. Not to stress you out, but just thought i would add my 2 cents.

Hello !

If anyone is interested in the city tour, please let me know NLT Friday of this week as I am trying to coordinate with the tour guide.

The tour will be Saturday, September 18th whenever our flight arrives...assuming no serious delays.  The cost is $75 US dollars and includes city tour, indian market, and dinner show.

Please e-mail me so that I can let the tour guide know how many plan to participate.

Thanks, williamspv3@state.gov

All -

I double-checked and have now been advised to get the yellow fever shot also due to our being in the amazon region. I missed this in my initial consult some how.  Thanks for the alert, girlfriend!

The recommendation is that Hep B is still a "not necessary," because of the short length of time in the area.

This information is from Travelers Medical Service in DC.

I have an appointment tomorrow for the yellow fever shot and to pick up my prescription for the malaria pills.  I'm going with Malorone ..fewer side effects.

See you all soon!

Pam

Girlfriends, are you counting the days, hrs, minutes til we leave next week? I am so excited, I can't sleep! It will be so much fun to meet all, and see what God is going to do on this trip

For those that may be like me a little rusty on their spanish, I took the phrases that were sent to us, cut them down the size of business cards, laminated them, punch holes in a corner and put them on a ring.  Ah Ah I've got a traveling dictionary that I can carry in a pocket .  At least if I forget a phrase I've got it with me!!!!!!!!  Just wanted to share the idea with you. I also have a light weight hunting (hiking) vest with lots of pockets thats ideal to wear and be able to keep hands free!

Praying for everyone as you pack and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime!!!!!!!!!

Blessings

Selma

Oh Well.  I listened to everything you all said, some for and some against the yellow fever shot and decided to NOT get it.  It wasn't just the money but also that I would have to drive 4 hours to the nearest clinic to get the shot.  Gas prices and all...  And they were only open limited hours on certain days.  So I guess I'll just pray a lot and leave it up to the Lord to protect me.  It's too late to do anything about it now.  I'm packed, ready to go and very excited.  See you all in a few days!!
