We are considering using Hands On for our combined age SS class - grades 2-5.  I was thinking about purchasing the Grade 3/4 curriculum.  The sample I downloaded from the website used a skit to tell the Bible Story.  Do all of the lessons use skits? And if not, what percentage do use skits?  Our kids don't seem to like them very much.  I love Group's VBS programs and was hoping to use Group's SS curriculum as well.

Thanks!

Hi Donna -

Not all of the lessons have skits but I don't have an exact count for you for that quarter yet. Our editor will be getting back to you tomorrow since she is still out for a holiday break. I do believe that some of the skits have CD components but I'll let the editor speak to that. We will try to get the correct information to you as soon as we can.

Hi, Donna!

The lesson you downloaded had quite a complete script and cast of characters. We actually have extremely few skits that go into that amount of detail. I've gone over next year's curriculum (Fall 2008-Summer 2009) and made a rough count of the use of any kind of acting (including things such as brief pantomimes of household chores within a larger activity), and we use drama under 10 percent of the time.

Also, most of the activities that include drama are not the main telling of the Bible story, but are the more optional activities that help explore the message of the story. Hands-On Bible Curriculum generally provides 3 to 4 separate activities of this sort—activities that dig more deeply into the Bible story—expressly so the teacher can pick and choose which ones to do depending on her (or his) specific class's preferences and learning styles.

I hope you’ll give HOBC a try—I think your kids will love it!

Thank you so much for the information.  I'll pass it along to my main SS teacher.

Donna
