Hi all, I was just told last Sunday that I was over VBS again this year to begin July 21st.  I just got approved for the funds today so I will be ordering the kit tomorrow.  This will be my 4th VBS in a row but I usually plan for months.  Could you share me some helpful decorting posts and some good ideas.

Thanks

Sue

As far as decorating goes....  focus on a couple of large items that will really make an impact.  The Periodic Table of the Bible is a good one (you can find this in the decorating forum).  Also, set up a lab table with with some cool sciencey- stuff.  Print out some clip art on large paper or even make a transperancy and start tracing onto posterboard. Good luck!

With so much planning to do for the teaching, maybe you could get in touch with other churches near you who have already done Power Lab, and could pass their decorations to you.  This could help so much to free up your time for the lesson planning.  If you look on church websites that you know around your town, they'll post their VBS, and you could tell if they did PL.  Most people are so eager to help, but you may need to call several.  Let us know how it goes.

Happy VBS!

We have several school teachers in our congregation that were willing loan items from there science labs. We setup entry foyer and hall with hands-on (touch me) stations. They included insect collection, space, fossils (collected from our state), magic sand, microscopes and screen scope (for the little ones) with pond water, weather (made clouds from cotton batting), plants.

In addition to the backdrop we have a lab setup on the stage. We covered the sides of glass containers with black paper, inverted container over Christmas light (larger bulb), placed beakers filled with colored water on container. These were fast, easy, and have that cool effect

Our VBS director made copies of the buddies coloring sheets a few weeks before and asked the children to color them each week and turn them in for a prize. It got them talking about VBS early and got them wondering what we would be up to this year. The coloring pages were very colorful and she taped them up all over the foyer of our church. It looked really good. The second thing she did to get the children and the church excited for VBS was to ask us to make robots at home and bring them for decor. My husband helped my daughter make one out of a box and other simple things laying around and spray painted it silver and it looked great. All the robots made a great decoration and it was no work on her part.  Oh, another simple thing was the noodles that you use to swim with were made into a chain like i saw on here somewhere which was very colorful and we hung them from the ceiling in the foyer and down the hall.

Hope that helps

Helen
