Do you think it would be okay to cut out the skits during the finale? For those of you who've already had your VBS, how important were they?  Our VBS starts next week and I'm the director as well as the FFF leader. I'm still trying to find enough volunteers as it is without trying to round up people willing to do skits. Help!

We are doing the skit in the opening with Professor Wilma. I have two of the teenage girls leading the music. They have been rotating being the leader in the skit and I have been the professor....It gives the kids an idea of what to expect that evening.  Our ending is a little more relaxed I have found that the kids are so winded up that it is hard for them to get settled down.  I  have changed the closing to just a couple of songs, announcements then the pastor comes up talks about the lesson and dismisses in prayer.  I hope this helps.

Well, I thought that the "Light Man" skit was super lame, but tried it anyway. The kids laughed like crazy, loved it, and hounded my husband all the next night wanting to know when Light Man was coming back. So, that shows what I know!

Same here. The kids loved light man. I don't get new people I use people already at VBS. My song leader was the person pulling a suitcase and two teens did the ball toss. Do not cut out the skit on the 4th day. It is so moving. I used two of the students, one teen, a loving set of parents and I did the older person. I had a pastor stand in for Jesus.

Hope this helps

Kathy

We also used staff already involved at VBS for the skits.  Usually they don't memorize their parts.  Some read them from notes while others, with a bit more confidence, paraphrase and adlib on their own.  Sometimes I would rewrite a little to shorten them.  I would encourage you to not eliminate them as they do tie the day together well.  My 20 something son played light man and my husband said it brought tears to his eyes.  Of course the day 4 was also meaningful.  Group does a great job with skits.  I'm sorry that because we meet in the evening we often have to shorten them to get everything done and kids out on time.

Blessings, Meg

If you can find some help I think you should do the skits.  We just finished day 4 and every day has either been very cool--the dry ice on Monday; fun--light-man on Tuesday; enthralling--Wednesday the kids were so excited to see what would sink or float; and today's was very special.  We ask some jr highers and high schoolers to help and let them read from the script-it always turns out fine.  I am our director and have always done the final program--this year I finally found someone else to help, but I'm almost disappointed because the science experiments are so fun!  Anyway, do your best to include them--I'll be praying for you!

DON'T CUT THE SONG (COME TO JESUS)/SKIT ON THURSDAY!!! It was the most moving part of the entire week.  We are even redoing for the entire church on Sunday.

Light man (we actually had Light Girl) was cheesy but fun.  I say do them. And just use people already there.  It's worth it.

Godspeed.

Thanks for the ideas. We wound up doing all the skits except the Peter walking on water skit on Day 3. The kids seemed to enjoy them so it was worth the extra effort.
