I am brain dead.  lol

I am hosting a block party in our church's parking lot/yard.  We are hoping to get more area youth interested in our church and youth group and show them what we have to offer.

Anyone have suggestions on what we should do or what would interest the kids?  We have a limited budget and plan on music, a few games, food, etc.

Anything fun and exciting that you can think of would be a great help!

Thanks!

I've never heard of a church hosting a block party. Could you explain what the event is like?

God Bless,

Misty that sounds like a great idea & alot of fun.  I recently learned that our youth minister will be leaving very soon and although we have someone else planning to step in, our dilemma is that the person who is leaving his kids make up half of our youth group; leaving only 6 kids. So we need to begin planning to rebuild our youth ASAP.  Upon learning this news I was also told that I've been elected to the youth activities committee so naturally my first thought was to visit this forum for ideas -- & thank you.   What a great way to possibly attract nearby youth.  Although I have a 13 yr. old, I am new to the whole "teen scene" so I look forward to hearing the ideas of others.

Ok, a block party is typically where you block off a city block and use it for entertainment.  Instead of doing that, we are using our church parking lot/yard.  We are having DJ music (all clean/christian artists), a cheap concession stand, games and prizes, and a table letting the community know what we offer at our church and upcoming events.  It is just a get together where you have fun and listen to music.  We may have a live band close out the night, that is still up in the air.  We also might have a moonbounce thing too for those that have younger kids.

It is just something to raise awareness in the community.

Thanks!

And we are having a live band close out the night.  A band that all the kids love and the adults stand around scratching their heads saying, "What are they singing?"  LOL....

I don't know if you already had your block party. But we have done block parties and Back 2 School Bashes and the most popular event has been our fear factor. THe kids love it. Make it age appropriate of course. We have done it with older teens and they have had to eat some pretty nasty stuff. Blended Big Mac meals with shake, bobbing for pigs feet and so much more. We had a cash prize to the winner (4 rounds). HOwever you do it and to what age its always fun to do. It always draws a crowd.

I have a band in Alabama that is ready to travel for Jesus.  If anyone is interested you can check out Facebook, Bret Alldredge  Cullman High School.  Bret has his CD out as of last year.  He is part of a ministry called OUTCRY that began 9 months ago.  Started with 4 people in a home wanting to do something for our youth, and it grew with incredible speed.  At about 8 weeks they were at the High School auditorium drawing in 700 - 1000 kids every Monday night.  They did music...drama... speaker...and more music.  The kids are coming out in droves.  Church youth, sports youth, gothic youth, all gathered together in one place to worship Jesus.

Please keep this in mind as you are trying to grow your church youth.  Jesus is alive and well and moving to reach out young people.

A band like this would be super for a block party, festival, disciple now, youth night, any event.

I have a ministry that will come out with a National band like (Tenth Avenue North and others) and a strength ministry. We will go to all the schools the days before the event and get kids from the schools to come out as well. In most cases you can even pick the group your kids would like to see. The cost to you is FREE! That's right I said free. We set up the event with other churches as well and we provide all the needs for the event at a very small ticket price. Just enough to cover our cost. If you are interested let
me know at chrisjames911@aol.com. In the mean time you can check out our website and see some of the events we are doing this month. the url is www.trinitytickets,net.
